Claims Technical Director - Excess Claims

Job Title Claims Technical Director – Excess Claims Location Los Angeles, CA Responsibilities Manages a book of excess claims for significant, complex products or lines of business, including complex coverage and mass tort matters. Conducts thorough investigations, critically assesses coverage and liability, and formulates strategic approaches to claim resolution. Analyzes and negotiates settlements within prescribed authority, and participates in arbitrations, mediations, depositions, or trials. Develops and implements strategic coverage decisions, determines outcomes, and formulates negotiation strategies for stakeholders. Oversees the issuance of payments within assigned authority limits, ensuring accuracy and timeliness. Ensures all correspondence, reports, and settlement agreements are accurately documented and strategically managed. Serves as the technical expert on product(s). Evaluates and makes recommendations to executive management on internal and external issues of strategic importance to product(s). Accountable for achieving performance targets and business results. Performs other duties as assigned. Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Risk Management and Insurance, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent experience. Minimum of 15 years of experience in property and casualty claims handling. Completion of a professional designation preferred, such as Associate in Claims (AIC). Ability to operate at the highest authority level on complex, high‑impact assignments, possessing extensive technical knowledge and skills in both product and industry. Excellent analytical, negotiation and problem‑solving skills. Ensures compliance with all legal, statutory and regulatory requirements. Provides technical advice and support to lower‑level positions, management, and other departments. Requires prolonged sitting and continuous use of a computer. May lift, carry, push or pull objects up to 10 lbs. Work Arrangement Employees are expected to work on‑site in the Downtown Los Angeles office four days a week, with the flexibility to work one day remotely. Core in‑office days are Tuesday‑Thursday, with the fourth day determined by business needs.
