Deputy Sheriff - Entry Level

Position Summary This position is responsible for general duty and investigatory law enforcement work involving the protection of life and property and the preservation of peace for the Pierce County Sheriff's Office. Work is performed in accordance with the mission, goals, and objectives of the Sheriff's Office and in compliance with governing federal, state, and local laws. Hiring Incentive Now offering a $10,000 hiring incentive for entry level deputy sheriff. Lateral candidates (commissioned corrections officers) do not need to take a written exam and receive a hiring incentive of $25,000, 80 hours of sick leave immediately and 80 hours of vacation leave after six months of employment. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or G.E.D. certificate. At least 21 years of age at time of appointment. Valid Washington State driver’s license with proof of insurability. U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or DACA recipient; ability to speak, read, and write English as required by RCW 41.14.100. Successful completion of Pierce County Sheriff's Office background investigation. Pass Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission physical fitness requirements and the physical fitness standards required by the Sheriff's Office at entrance to the Basic Law Enforcement Academy. Entrance to and successful completion of the Basic Law Enforcement Academy as required by RCW 43.101. Physical Fitness Requirements During the background process, candidates must complete the Sheriff’s Office physical ability test (PAT) which includes the following: 300‑meter sprint: 71 seconds max, 1 rep. 1.5‑mile run: 14:31 minutes max, 1 rep.
