Student Services Assistant

The Opportunity

Cornell University's School of Continuing Education (SCE) is seeking a Student Services Assistant to join our front-facing student services team. In this role, you will be an important point of contact for students and families, supporting them throughout the application, enrollment, and student experience at Cornell.

Working as part of a dynamic and collaborative team, you will meet with and guide students, provide advising and information, and respond to questions by phone, email, and in person. You will help ensure that students receive timely, thoughtful, and professional service while contributing to a positive and welcoming experience across SCE.

Key Responsibilities:

Serve as a front-facing member of the student services team, supporting applicants, admitted students, and currently enrolled students. Meet with and guide students and families, providing information, assistance, and advising related to their SCE experience. Respond to phone calls, emails, and in-person inquiries with professionalism, friendliness, and respect, while providing information promptly and with an appropriate sense of urgency. Support front-line colleagues and contribute to the overall effectiveness of student services operations. Serve as a key member of the application and registration materials review team in Slate. Assist with the ongoing maintenance of admissions data and processes within SCE's admissions application system, Slate. Support registration and enrollment activities in the Student Information System. Partner with the Slate Systems Analyst to help ensure data is accurate and secure and that data transfers are functioning as expected. Continuously seek opportunities for improvement and efficiency in processes and services. Support other student services activities and operational needs as part of a collaborative team. This is a full-time (39 hours/week) endowed position based in Ithaca, NY. This position follows a 2:3 campus-to-home hybrid work arrangement, which may fluctuate based on the time of year and department needs. This hybrid work arrangement is subject to change at any time. Typical work hours are 8:00am-4:30pm Monday through Friday.

An Associate's degree and 2 to 4 years of relevant work experience or equivalent combination. Ability to work independently, with limited direction, and within a team toward a common goal. Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Attention to detail and accuracy. Demonstrated time management and organization skills. Thoughtful responsiveness to inquiries with varying levels of urgency. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities. Willingness to adapt and enthusiasm for learning new things. Experience modeling values that support inclusion, belonging, and wellbeing. The ability to cultivate and develop inclusive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members. If you possess these experiences and skills this may be the role for you! There are a few other qualifications we would view as incredibly helpful in this role, to include:

Experience with Technolutions Slate, Campus Solutions PeopleSoft, and/or Salesforce Student Success module. Familiarity with post-secondary education, including application and admission processes. Experience with other data and student systems at Cornell. Experience collaborating with colleagues to maintain and streamline operations. Experience working with cross-functional teams in implementing new technological solutions. Demonstrated customer service experience that incorporates a global perspective. This position is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. Employees typically perform this role remotely 3 days per week and on-campus 2 days per week. The university reserves the right to modify, suspend, revoke or terminate the hybrid work arrangement at any time. This position is based in Ithaca, New York. Employees who work remotely may receive multiple W-2 Forms depending on their work location. The New York Convenience of employer guidelines require New York State individual tax reporting and withholding for this position. Additional individual state income tax filings may also be required if working temporarily outside of New York State.
