Phlebotomist

Location: Long Beach, CA and area (float job) Schedule: see below Job code: CVDJP00035244 Pay rate: $22.00 to $25.00 per hour, depending on experience Benefits are available Shift: 6AM to 6PM Monday‑Friday. Could start as early as 6AM or end as late as 6PM depending on location coverage. Shifts are 8 hours. This is a float position and will be floating around Los Angeles and Orange County counties. Requirements: clean driving record and reliable transportation. Mileage expenses paid. Pediatric and geriatric experience required. Summary The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. Position Responsibilities Perform blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens. Record maintenance data and decontamination, update patient information. Properly explain the venipuncture process and other specimen collection (e.g., urine or fecal) in a clear and courteous manner. Demonstrate technique using straight or butterfly needles. Fully understand all physicians' orders and match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes. Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order. Check all test requisitions or computer label against script to ensure 100% accuracy. Package specimens for transport and store samples according to required temperature and protocol. Maintain compliance with OSHA and DEP regulations. Attend annual department trainings. Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries. Minimum Qualifications Valid phlebotomy certification for the state of employment. At least 6 months of work experience performing venipunctures in a fast‑paced lab or hospital setting.
