Lead APP Inpatient Medicine

Day - 12 Hour (United States of America) Job Overview The Lead Advanced Practice Provider (Lead APP) provides supervision and management of advanced practice providers (APPs) in a distinct clinical service line. The Lead APP provides clinical direction and education, works closely with operational and physician leaders, and oversaw hiring, termination, and professional growth and development of the APPs. The Lead APP also functions under the general Nurse Practitioner (NP), Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS), Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA), or the Physician Assistant (PA) Job Description approved by the Interdisciplinary Practice Committee (IDPC). Essential Functions Employees must abide by all Joint Commission requirements related to cultural diversity, patient care, patient rights, safety, emergency management, teamwork, and ongoing education. Employees must perform all duties in accordance with the C‑I‑CARE standards of the Hospital. The Lead APP must supervise a minimum of 10 APPs and fulfill responsibilities in three core categories: Clinical Oversight & Leadership, Administration, and Internal/External Legal/Regulatory Issues. Employees may also perform other duties as assigned. Clinical Oversight & Leadership Co‑direct clinical, operational, and administrative initiatives with the service line Medical Director and unit nursing management team. Conduct regularly scheduled meetings with the staff APPs. Ensure clinical competency and adherence to policy through practice analysis and case review with physicians. Investigate and respond to patient/family complaints. Orient new staff APPs and provide ongoing education. Represent the service line on hospital‑wide committees and professional evaluation committees. Ensure all operational mandates and initiatives are completed (e.g., C‑I‑CARE rounds). Administration Review and participate in financial planning and issues for the service. Participate in hiring, evaluation, coaching, mentoring, and discipline of staff APPs. Investigate and resolve operational issues. Coordinate quality improvement and process improvement programs. Provide 24‑hour administrator on‑call coverage for the service line. Coordinate the scheduling of the APPs. Perform other duties as assigned. Internal & External Legal/Regulatory Issues Ensure compliance and support Medical Staff Services initiatives, policies, and procedures. Advocate for practice models that allow clinicians to practice to the fullest extent of their scope. Work with hospital operations regarding funding, billing, and reimbursement models. Participate in regional and national discussions that affect APP practice, legislative and health policy issues. Education Qualifications Advanced Practice Nurse: Master’s or Doctorate Degree in Nursing or other health‑care related field from an accredited university. Physician Assistant: Bachelor’s degree in Science, Physician Assistant Studies, or another health‑care related field from an accredited university. Experience Qualifications A minimum of one (1) year of experience as a licensed advanced practice provider (Physician Assistant, Nurse Practitioner, Clinical Nurse Specialist, or Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist). Three (3) years of APP experience preferred. Management experience preferred. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of management principles such as hiring, evaluation, counseling, termination, budgeting, and employee recognition. Knowledge of practice evaluation, process improvement, national professional and regulatory agency initiatives, and the standards of care for APP roles. Ability to demonstrate clinical competence and in‑depth knowledge in specialty. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, and to establish relationships with diverse groups. Ability to plan, organize, prioritize, work independently, and meet deadlines. Ability to promote evidence‑based practice and use research for innovation in patient care. Ability to use educational strategies to develop staff and provide quality care. Ability to conduct process improvement activities and contribute to institution‑wide initiatives. Ability to work full‑time. Licenses and Certifications PA – Physician Assistant State Licensure. RN – Valid California license to practice as a Registered Nurse and one of the following advanced practice nursing licenses: NP (valid California license and current national certification), CNS (valid California license and current national certification), or CRNA (valid California license and current national certification).
