Position Title: Clinical Supervisor

Department: Clinical Services

Reports To: Program Director

Location: Detroit, Michigan

Employment Status: Full-Time

Position Summary

The Clinical Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the delivery of clinical services within New Light Recovery Center's Substance Use Disorder (SUD) treatment programs. The Clinical Supervisor provides leadership, supervision, training, and support to counselors, case managers, and other clinical staff to ensure the delivery of high-quality, person-centered, evidence-based treatment services that comply with regulatory, accreditation, and organizational standards.

The Clinical Supervisor promotes a culture of recovery, professional development, accountability, and excellence while ensuring compliance with applicable federal, state, Medicaid, DWIHN, CARF, HIPAA, and licensing requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Clinical Leadership & Supervision

• Provide individual and group supervision to clinical staff in accordance with state licensing requirements and organizational policies.
• Monitor counselor caseloads, productivity, documentation, and treatment outcomes.
• Review and approve clinical assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, discharge summaries, and other clinical documentation as required.
• Assist staff with complex clinical cases, crisis intervention, and treatment planning.
• Promote evidence-based practices in substance use disorder treatment.

Quality Assurance & Compliance

• Ensure compliance with CARF standards, Medicaid requirements, DWIHN policies, HIPAA regulations, and applicable state and federal laws.
• Conduct regular chart audits and documentation reviews.
• Monitor clinical performance indicators and implement corrective actions when needed.
• Participate in internal and external audits, accreditation surveys, and quality improvement initiatives.
• Assist in developing and updating clinical policies and procedures.

Staff Development

• Train, mentor, and evaluate counselors, case managers, and other clinical personnel.
• Conduct performance evaluations and provide coaching and corrective action when necessary.
• Identify training needs and coordinate staff development activities.
• Support employee engagement and retention efforts.

Program Operations

• Collaborate with medical, nursing, peer recovery, case management, and administrative staff to ensure coordinated care.
• Assist with client admissions, transfers, discharges, and crisis situations as needed.
• Monitor program census and service utilization.
• Participate in multidisciplinary treatment team meetings.
• Ensure continuity of care and appropriate referrals to community resources.

Administrative Responsibilities

• Maintain supervision records and required documentation.
• Prepare reports as requested by leadership.
• Attend management meetings and represent the clinical department.
• Support implementation of organizational goals and strategic initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

• Master's Degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or a related behavioral health field from an accredited institution.

Licensure

One of the following:

• LMSW (Licensed Master Social Worker)
• LPC (Licensed Professional Counselor)
• LMFT (Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist)

Experience

• Minimum of three (3) years of experience providing substance use disorder treatment services.
• Minimum of one (1) year of supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
• Experience in a Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) and/or Opioid Treatment Program (OTP) setting preferred.
• Experience working with Medicaid-funded populations preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Strong knowledge of substance use disorders, co-occurring disorders, and recovery-oriented systems of care.
• Knowledge of CARF accreditation standards and regulatory requirements.
• Strong clinical assessment, treatment planning, and documentation skills.
• Ability to supervise, coach, and mentor clinical staff.
• Excellent communication, organizational, and conflict-resolution skills.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.
• Proficiency with electronic health records and Microsoft Office applications.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to sit, stand, walk, and use office equipment for extended periods.
• Ability to respond appropriately during client emergencies or crisis situations.

Performance Expectations

The Clinical Supervisor will be evaluated based on:

• Clinical documentation compliance rates.
• Staff supervision and development outcomes.
• Client treatment outcomes and engagement.
• Regulatory and accreditation compliance.
• Quality assurance indicators.
• Leadership effectiveness and teamwork.

Salary Range

$70,000 – $90,000 annually (or approximately $34–$43 per hour ) depending on licensure, experience, supervisory background, and SUD treatment expertise.
