1.00 Minimum Qualifications Requires technical knowledge in the field acquired through an apprenticeship, a 2-year degree, or professional certificate. Preferred Qualifications Position Summary The primary purpose and function of the Veterinary Technician is to support veterinarians in teaching veterinary students clinical skills including technical skills and animal care. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies Be familiar with all basic clinical skills for all four species: E.g. collecting blood and other specimens, inserting catheters, administration of medications, Be familiar with basic anesthetic techniques including intubation, and maintenance. Surgical assistance: be familiar with instruments, all aspects of sterile technique, surgical scrubbing (patient and surgeon) Euthanasia. Physical Demands Lift 50lb. Sit, stand, stoop, bend, and walk intermittently during the day on hard floor surfaces. Manual dexterity sufficient to accurately work with small, delicate pieces of equipment or large heavy objects/containers/machinery. Wear protective clothing including mask, gloves, gown, hairnet, safety goggles etc.
