Electrophysiology Registered Nurse (EP RN)

Job Description

The Electrophysiology Registered Nurse (EP RN) serves a pivotal role within the electrophysiology team, acting primarily as either the primary nurse or circulator during EP procedures. The EP RN is responsible for comprehensive patient assessment, medication reviews, clinical documentation, communication, and coordination of care before, during, and immediately after procedures.

Key Responsibilities

• Review patients' medical histories, medications, allergies, laboratory results, IV access, and procedural orders prior to entering the procedure room.
• Identify patient-specific risks or needs and coordinate with the electrophysiologist, anesthesia providers, advanced practice providers, and holding/recovery staff.
• Conduct ongoing assessments during procedures, administer medications within scope and order parameters, and document procedures and safety information using Epic.
• Provide backup pacing support during cardiac implant procedures as necessary while closely collaborating with anesthesia staff.
• Fulfill circulator responsibilities, including the management of sterile supplies, room setup, turnover, and ensuring the availability of necessary equipment throughout cases.
• Communicate effectively with the interdisciplinary team to support timely room starts and ensure efficient procedural care.
• Assist with patient and equipment preparation at the sterile field when required.

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse license in New York.
• A minimum of 2 years of relevant clinical experience.

Certifications

• Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in cardiac implant or structural heart scrub roles is preferred but not required.

Typical Procedures Performed

• Radiofrequency and cryo ablations for Atrial Fibrillation, Atrial Flutter, Atrial Tachycardia, AVNRT, WPW, and other ablations.
• Device implants including traditional pacemakers (single, dual, CSP, BiV), ICDs, Sub Q ICDs, leadless pacemakers, loops, and left atrial appendage closures such as Watchmans and Amulets.
• Low-risk laser procedures.

This dynamic role demands strong clinical judgment, effective communication skills, and the capability to work collaboratively within a specialized team. The EP RN is integral in delivering high-quality care and ensuring positive outcomes for patients undergoing electrophysiology procedures.
