Position Overview The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is looking to hire a Site Technician 2 for Channahon State Park. This position will use their skills to maintain and repair the site buildings, grounds, vehicles and equipment, and operate a 35 foot aerial lift for removal and pruning of trees from the canal prism, operate several dump trucks with air brakes and a 30 foot trailer with a GCWR of 26,001 or more pounds to transport equipment gravel and rock. This position will disinfect restrooms, sell camping and firewood permits to the public and on a seasonal basis provide leadership and direction to seasonal staff and volunteers. Channahon State Park is the official trailhead for the Illinois & Michigan Canal State Trail, it provides park visitors a look back at a historic waterway that transformed a state. It's a great place for primitive tent camping, fishing, hiking and watching the Great blue herons and waterfowl feeding or nesting near the park and along the canal banks. Essential Functions Under general direction, repairs and maintains buildings, fixtures, equipment and regularly operates heavyequipment. Operates 35 foot aerial lift for the removal and pruning of trees from canal prism and hauling material to maintaintrails. Maintains ground areas throughout the site. Repairs trails along canal including signs, washouts and bridges. On an intermittent or seasonal basis, provides leadership and direction to seasonal employees as well as volunteers. Sells camping permits and firewood permits to the public. Assists in implementing safety and security programs at the site. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumeratedabove. Minimum Qualfications Requires education and experience equivalent to high school graduation and two years maintenance or farming experience preferably associated with the building trades and/or the operation of heavy equipment and machinery. Preferred Qualifications Working knowledge of tools and equipment used in the trades and/or operation of heavy equipment or farm machinery andimplements and/or warehousing. One (1) year of experience in following written and oral instructions. One (1) year of experience in informing visitors of site facilities, programs, rules, and regulations. One (1) year of experience in outdoor recreation. One (1) year of experience in groundskeeping. Conditions of Employment Requires completion of a background check and self-disclosure of criminal history. Requires Valid Class A CDL Driver’s License with Air Brakes. Requires ability to obtain pesticide operator's license within 6 months of employment. Requires ability to withstand exposure to the elements on a year-round basis. Requires physical ability to operate and maintain tools, equipment, and materials utilized in the maintenance, repair, and care of site resources, buildings, and grounds. Requires ability to lift, carry, and transport loads exceeding sixty pounds. Requires abiliity to walk over rough and broken terrain.
