OPS College Prep Tutor - The Hawkins Center
Florida Gators
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
College Prep Tutors are a part of our Learning Services Program. This program's purpose is to advocate for academically at-risk student-athletes in order to provide access to an equitable education. The College Prep Program supports student-athletes who are academically underprepared in English, Reading, and/or Math, as determined by Florida's mandated standardized testing requirements. Through corequisite learning support, students enroll in credit-bearing, college-level courses while receiving additional academic support concurrently with their coursework.
College Prep Tutors provide individualized academic support to student-athletes enrolled in College Prep courses. Tutors work with students in one or more subject areas, including English, reading, and math, to strengthen foundational academic skills, support engagement with college-level coursework, and promote academic progress and independence.
College Prep Tutors should:
-
- Provide individualized academic support in English, reading, and/or math based on their areas of expertise and the needs of student-athletes enrolled in College Prep courses.
- Help student-athletes strengthen foundational academic skills and develop effective approaches to completing college-level coursework.
- Adapt tutoring strategies to meet the individual learning needs, strengths, and goals of each student-athlete.
- Support student-athletes in breaking down coursework into manageable steps while encouraging independence and ownership of their academic work.
- Build positive, professional relationships with student-athletes while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with student-athletes, Learning Services staff, Academic Advisors, and other colleagues.
- Maintain accurate and timely tutoring documentation and communicate relevant concerns or observations to the appropriate Learning Services staff.
- Demonstrate reliability and consistency in attendance and scheduled tutoring commitments.
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with NCAA, University of Florida, SEC, and University Athletic Association policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Attend required trainings, orientations, and continued education opportunities.
- Serve as a positive representative of the Learning Services Program and the University Athletic Association.
MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
- A Bachelor's degree or higher in English, Math, Education or related area

- Experience teaching or tutoring English, reading, or mathematics at the elementary, secondary, or postsecondary level.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, with careful attention to detail when completing required documentation and tutoring reports.
- Must be able to work a non-standard work schedule
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

How will I be notified if I am considered for a tutoring position?
Applicants whose qualifications align with current College Prep needs will be contacted by email and invited to interview with a member of the Learning Services staff.
Hiring typically takes place in the weeks leading up to the start of a new semester (i.e., late July/early August for Fall, late November/early December for Spring, and April for Summer)
If you do not hear from us, it means that your academic background or areas of expertise are not needed for the current semester. Your application will remain on file for future consideration, so there is no need to submit another application unless your qualifications or availability change.

Once a College Prep Tutor position is offered and accepted, the candidate will work with Learning Services staff to complete the UAA Human Resources onboarding process.
Before beginning tutoring, new tutors must complete required online training and attend New Hire and Compliance Orientation meetings. Additional Learning Services training and professional development opportunities may also be required throughout the year.

We will carefully review application materials and match applicants with our current areas of need. Qualified applicants will be contacted for an interview. Please note that applications are accepted and reviewed year-round.
Interviews may be conducted prior to the closing date, but no offer of employment will be extended until after the position closes. Once an official offer is extended and accepted, the candidate will be required to complete the federal Employment Eligibility Verification Form I-9 and will be contingent on satisfactory background screening results. The candidate will also be required to present acceptable and original documents to prove identity and authorization to work in the United States without the need for employment-based visa sponsorship now or in the future. The University Athletic Association, Inc. is an at-will employer, a separate company from the University of Florida and not a state employer.
