Assistant Kitchen Manager (AKM) Dive Bar & Grille – North Hills Location

Pay: $18–$22+/hour (based on experience)
Schedule: Full-time, flexible schedule including days, evenings, and weekends

Position Overview

Dive Bar & Grille is seeking an experienced, motivated, and dependable Assistant Kitchen Manager (AKM) to help oversee daily kitchen operations at our North Hills location.

We're looking for a hands-on leader who thrives in a fast-paced restaurant environment, takes pride in food quality and consistency, and knows how to keep a kitchen running efficiently.

The ideal candidate has strong culinary experience, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to lead by example. This position works closely with the Kitchen Manager and restaurant management team to ensure smooth operations, maintain standards, and support kitchen staff.

Key Responsibilities

Kitchen Operations & Food Production

• Assist in overseeing daily kitchen operations, including food preparation, production, and service.

• Ensure consistent food quality, presentation, portion control, and recipe execution.

• Coordinate daily and weekly prep schedules to meet business demands.

• Oversee bulk food production and preparation for private parties, special events, and large groups.

• Work hands-on alongside kitchen staff during busy shifts and as needed.

• Maintain an organized, efficient, and productive kitchen environment.

Team Leadership & Development

• Help supervise, train, and motivate back-of-house employees.

• Provide direction and support to kitchen staff throughout daily operations.

• Assist with onboarding and training new kitchen employees.

• Promote teamwork, accountability, and a positive work environment.

• Help identify and address performance concerns in collaboration with management.

Inventory, Cost Control & Organization

• Assist with inventory management, product ordering, and proper stock rotation.

• Monitor food waste, portion control, and product usage to help manage food costs.

• Ensure proper storage, labeling, and organization of food products.

• Identify opportunities to improve kitchen efficiency and reduce unnecessary costs.

• Communicate product shortages, equipment issues, and operational needs to management.

Food Safety & Standards

• Ensure compliance with food safety, sanitation, and health department regulations.

• Maintain kitchen cleanliness and proper equipment care.

• Monitor food temperatures, storage procedures, and safe food handling practices.

• Help maintain consistent operational standards across all shifts.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2–3 years of experience in a high-volume restaurant kitchen preferred.

• Previous experience as an Assistant Kitchen Manager, Kitchen Supervisor, Lead Cook, or similar leadership role strongly preferred.

• Strong knowledge of food preparation, kitchen operations, and food safety.

• Experience with inventory, ordering, food costs, and portion control.

• Ability to lead, train, and motivate a kitchen team.

• Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.

• Ability to multitask and remain calm under pressure.

• Dependable, self-motivated, and willing to take initiative.

• Flexible availability, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

• ServSafe certification preferred.
