As Catalina Paints continues to grow, we are strengthening our Accounting & Finance team and are seeking an experienced Senior Staff Accountant who can contribute to the accuracy, efficiency, and integrity of our financial operations. This position offers the opportunity to work in a multi-location retail and distribution environment and take an active role in general ledger accounting, inventory, financial close, reconciliations, tax compliance, and process improvements. We are looking for someone who is detail-oriented, accountable, and eager to grow with an established company while making a meaningful contribution to our Accounting & Finance team. Position Summary The Senior Staff Accountant is responsible for key accounting and financial functions, including general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, month-end close, sales tax compliance, and financial reporting support. This position plays an important role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the Company’s financial records and will assist in strengthening accounting processes and internal controls. The Senior Staff Accountant will also support year-end financial reporting, tax preparation, audits, and other accounting and finance projects as needed. This is a full-time position located at Catalina Paints’ office in North Hollywood, California. The position reports to the VP of Finance and Accounting. Primary Relationships The Senior Staff Accountant works closely with the Accounting & Finance team as well as store management, warehouse personnel, and other departments throughout Catalina Paints. Outside of Catalina Paints, the Senior Staff Accountant works closely with the IRS, CDTFA, other government and regulatory agencies, and external CPAs to support tax filings, reporting requirements, audits, and overall regulatory compliance. Key Responsibilities Support the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, ensuring assigned activities are completed accurately and on schedule. Prepare and post journal entries, including accruals, prepaid expenses, and other general ledger entries. Perform monthly bank reconciliations and investigate and resolve outstanding or unusual reconciling items. Prepare monthly balance sheet account reconciliations and supporting schedules. Maintain the accuracy and integrity of the general ledger by researching and correcting discrepancies. Prepare monthly sales tax filings and related journal entries, ensuring filings and payments are completed accurately and on time. Assist with financial reporting and provide supporting schedules and documentation for management. Support year-end tax preparation and external CPA requests by preparing schedules, reports, and supporting documentation. Ensure accounting processes are accurate, timely, organized, properly documented, and performed in accordance with GAAP and Company policies. Assist in developing and improving accounting procedures, internal controls, and workflow efficiencies. Provide professional and responsive support to internal departments, vendors, customers, and other key stakeholders. Assist with Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions when needed. Participate in special projects, financial analysis, process improvements, and other accounting-related assignments as needed. Qualifications & Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred. Minimum of 3–5 years of progressively responsible accounting experience preferred. Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end close procedures. Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to research and resolve accounting discrepancies independently. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities simultaneously. High level of accuracy and attention to detail. Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with the Accounting & Finance team and other departments. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including formulas, lookups, PivotTables, and data analysis. Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook and Word. Experience with Shopify and QuickBooks. Experience with Décor or a similar retail accounting/ERP system is strongly preferred. Retail, multi-location, inventory, or manufacturing accounting experience is strongly preferred. Ability and willingness to learn new systems, processes, and accounting procedures.
