Senior Counsel - Family Law Attorney

A law firm seeks a highly motivated and passionate attorney to join its Sioux City, Iowa office as a Senior Counsel in the Family Law Practice Group. The ideal candidate will demonstrate an entrepreneurial spirit and exceptional attention to detail, thriving in a leadership-focused, fast-paced environment while delivering sophisticated legal solutions for families navigating complex legal issues.

Duties

Independently represent clients in family law matters, including divorce and child custody.
Provide legal counsel and strategic guidance to clients under Iowa law.
Draft, review, and file legal documents such as petitions and motions.
Represent clients in court, including hearings, trials, and mediations.
Negotiate settlements and engage in mediation to resolve disputes.
Manage a dynamic caseload with efficiency and precision.
Conduct in-depth legal research to support cases.
Collaborate with colleagues for a holistic approach to client representation.
Mentor and provide strategic direction to paralegals and associate attorneys.
Engage in client development, community outreach, and networking efforts.

Requirements

Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
Active license to practice law in Iowa; Nebraska or South Dakota licensure is advantageous.
5+ years of experience in family law with a strong litigation and negotiation record.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Exceptional interpersonal skills and client service capabilities.
Strong legal research, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
Highly organized and detail-oriented.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and legal practice management tools.
An established book of business or referral network is highly valued.

Education

Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications

Active license to practice law in Iowa.

Skills

Strong background in family law.
Proven record of litigation, negotiation, and client advocacy.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Proficient in legal research and practice management tools.
