DEPARTMENT: World Languages & Literatures Position Title: Lecturer Pool – World Languages & Literatures Position Details The Department of World Languages & Literatures at Sacramento State offers a Master of Arts in Spanish, an undergraduate major in Spanish, minors in Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, and Spanish, and also offers language classes in Arabic, Korean, and Punjabi. Undergraduate programs are designed to provide students the opportunity to learn about languages, literatures, and cultures, broaden cultural understanding, increase language proficiency, and enable effective communication in a pluralistic society and abroad. Part‑time lecturers are instructed to teach, prepare classes, grade, and hold office hours. Other duties may be assigned as needed. Course assignments, dates, times, and modality are set by the Department Chair under the direction of the College Dean. Rank and Salary Initial rank and salary for lecturer faculty are based on professional experience and educational background. Most new lecturers are hired at the Lecturer A or B rank. As of July 2024, the classification salary ranges are: Lecturer A: $5,507 – $6,677 Lecturer B: $6,221 – $13,224 Lecturer C: $6,825 – $14,523 Lecturer D: $8,593 – $15,211 Salary is determined on a full‑time rate basis (15 weighted teaching units). Compensation is paid in six checks per semester. For example, a Lecturer A assigned 3 units at the minimum salary would earn $6,608.40 per semester. Required Qualifications Master’s degree and experience teaching the subject at the college level. Preferred Qualifications Ph.D. in the specific area of instruction.
