Job Description
\nThe otologist/neurotologist will provide comprehensive evaluation and management of patients with a broad range of otologic and neurotologic conditions. Clinical responsibilities include the care of patients with hearing loss, chronic ear disease, cholesteatoma, otologic infections, vestibular disorders, otologic trauma, and implantable hearing technologies. The role includes a major focus on cochlear implantation, osseointegrated hearing solutions, and contemporary management of vestibular disorders. The physician will participate in both outpatient and surgical care and contribute to the continued growth and regional reach of the departments ear and hearing programs. While experience with skull base pathology is welcomed, the primary clinical emphasis of the position is comprehensive otologic and neurotologic care rather than a dedicated lateral skull base practice.
\n Academic and Educational Responsibilities
\n The successful candidate will actively participate in the departments educational mission by teaching and mentoring residents, fellows, and medical students in both clinical and operative settings. Faculty are expected to contribute to curriculum development, skills training, and scholarly educational activities that support trainee development and program excellence. Participation in departmental committees, quality improvement initiatives, multidisciplinary care pathways, and professional society engagement is encouraged.
Collaborative Environment
\n The otologist/neurotologist will work closely with colleagues in audiology, vestibular therapy, neurology, neurosurgery, pediatrics, and primary care to provide coordinated, patient-centered care. The position offers opportunities to help shape programmatic growth in cochlear implantation, hearing restoration, and vestibular care within a large academic health system serving a diverse regional population.
Required Qualifications
\n Doctor of Medicine (MD)
\n Completion of an ACGME-accredited Otolaryngology Head & Neck Surgery residency
\n Completion of fellowship training in otology or neurotology
\n Demonstrated commitment to clinical excellence and education
\n Eligibility for medical licensure in the State of Ohio
\n Academic rank and compensation commensurate with experience
Preferred Qualifications
\n Experience in cochlear implantation and implantable hearing technologies
\n Interest in vestibular disorders and multidisciplinary ear care
\n Prior teaching experience or demonstrated engagement in trainee education
\n Ability to contribute to program development and clinical innovation

\n The Department of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center is a nationally recognized leader in ear, nose, and throat (ENT) care, combining advanced clinical services with academic excellence in research and education. As a distinct academic department within the Ohio State College of Medicine, it offers comprehensive diagnosis, treatment, and surgical management for a full spectrum of otolaryngologic conditions affecting adults and children.

The departments clinical expertise spans general and specialized ENT care, including allergy and immunology, audiology and hearing disorders, facial plastic and reconstructive surgery, sinus and skull base surgery, head and neck cancer treatment, pediatric otolaryngology, sleep apnea management, and voice and swallowing disorders. It is supported by state-of-the-art facilities, including the Ohio State Eye and Ear Institute, the James Cancer Hospital, and outpatient clinics serving central Ohio.
\n In addition to exceptional patient care, the department plays a vital role in training the next generation of otolaryngologists. Its educational mission includes instruction for medical students, residency training, and eight fellowship programs across multiple subspecialties within Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery. A strong emphasis on research drives innovation in both basic science and clinical practice, resulting in numerous publications and contributions to advancements in the field.

Faculty Defined
\n Clinical faculty (regardless of rank) - Persons with titles of assistant professor-clinical, associate professor-clinical, and professor-clinical. These faculty will have earned a Doctor of Medicine (MD), Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO), doctorate (PhD) or other terminal degree in the relevant field. Clinical faculty members are not eligible for tenure and are appointed for terms of three to five years. They may be reappointed to successive terms. Their primary career focus is the delivery of exemplary clinical care, which may also include teaching and/or research.
Tenure-Track faculty (regardless of rank) - Persons with the titles of assistant professor, associate professor, or professor who are eligible for tenure or who have obtained tenure. These faculty will have earned a doctorate (PhD), Doctor of Medicine (MD), Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO), or other terminal degree in the relevant field of study. Their primary career focus centers on research, service, and teaching. Tenure-track faculty with MD, DO, or MD/PhD degrees may also be involved in clinical care.
\nResearch Faculty (regardless of rank) - Persons with the titles of research assistant professor, research associate professor, or research professor. These faculty will have earned a doctorate (PhD) or other terminal degree in the relevant field of study. Research faculty members are not eligible for tenure and are appointed for terms of one to five years. Their principal career focus is research.
