Assistant Controller

Chief of Staff KC is partnering with a growing, well-established organization on an Assistant Controller search based in the Kansas City Metro area . This is a newly created role driven by company growth, offering strong visibility into headquarters‑level accounting and finance operations. We are also working on several similar Senior Accountant and Accounting Manager roles offering increased/competitive pay as well! Responsibilities Oversee full‑cycle accounting functions including month‑end close, general ledger management, financial reporting, and account reconciliations. Review and prepare journal entries, supporting schedules, and financial statements with an emphasis on accuracy and meeting deadlines. Contribute to budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis processes. Proactively identify and implement improvements to existing accounting workflows and manual processes to drive greater efficiency. Support sales and use tax compliance and reporting obligations. Mentor and support accounting team members, with a clear path toward taking on a formal management role over time. Take on ad hoc projects and cross‑functional responsibilities as the business needs arise. Requirements A bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance is preferred; a CPA is a bonus but not a dealbreaker. At least 5 years of hands‑on, full‑cycle accounting experience; driven Senior Accountants looking to take on the next step are welcome to apply. Solid grasp of GAAP and financial reporting standards. Familiarity with sales and use tax is a plus. Experience with Microsoft Dynamics Business Central or a comparable ERP system is advantageous. A continuous improvement mindset with a track record of spotting inefficiencies and building better processes. Strong communicator with natural leadership tendencies and a team‑first attitude.
