Circulation Assistant

Submit a cover letter and updated resume by August 4, 2026 POSTING DATE: July 21, 2026 JOB TITLE: Circulation Assistant, Grade 17 LOCATION: Headquarters Library DATE AVAILABLE: September 1, 2026 SALARY: $2,305 per month (Includes generous benefits package) HOURS: 40 hours per week Monday,Tuesday, Thursday 8:45 am-5:15 pm, Wednesday 11:45-8:15 pm, Friday 8:45 am-6:15pm; and every 5th weekend (Saturday 9:30 am -5:15 pm, Sunday 12:15 pm-5:15 pm) (Note: Must be flexibleto accommodate schedule changes may be asked to work other times) EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. Some supervisory or leadership experience preferred.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Provides superiorcustomer service when assisting patrons of all ages Assists patronswith basic information questions in person, over the phone, and electronically Oversees thedepartment in absence of the supervisor, handling staff and patron inquiries Works with avariety of software and library automation programs Responsible forspecial department projects as assigned Responsible foropening and closing procedures including cash register and deposit tasks Assists with allcirculation duties, including but not limited to library card registration,patron account services, collection maintenance, and Interlibrary Loan Keeps currentwith library events, SCPL Intranet, calendar, and meeting room reservations Assists withtraining new employees Assists withadditional branch and department coverage as needed Remains awareofsecurity and safety concerns taking appropriate action as needed

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

Bachelor’s degreeor equivalent combination of education and experience and some supervisory orleadership experience General knowledgeof public library procedures, practices, and equipment Excellentinterpersonal and customer service skills that display a positive attitude,cultural sensitivity, a sense of humor, with the ability to interface withpeople from all backgrounds and age groups Strong technologyskills and ability to work with a variety of devices, software , and audio-visual equipment Creative,flexible , and organized with good time management skills andattention to detail Ability to takedirection and work independently or in a team environment Strong work ethicwith a willingness to take initiative and ability to direct the tasks ofcoworkers Observant andsecurity minded Ability to liftboxes weighing up to 50 pounds & ability to push heavy carts SCPL uses multi-factor authentication for network and programaccess.
