Position Summary This position assesses, plans, implements, evaluates, and documents nursing care of patients in accordance with organizational policies and standards of professional nursing practice. The role is accountable for the quality of nursing services delivered by the individual and others under their direction. The nurse utilizes specialized knowledge and judgment to assess data and plan, provide, and evaluate care appropriate to the physical and developmental age of assigned patients. Core Functions Assess patient physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural, and discharge planning needs. Review patient history, physicals, and diagnostics, report abnormal results, and complete assessments per policy. Formulate a plan of care, including discharge planning, based on assessment data and input from patients, families, and the health team. Set realistic, measurable goals in collaboration with patients and families, and revise plans as patient needs change. Implement the plan of care through direct patient care, coordination, delegation, and supervision of the health care team. Provide care per physician orders and nursing plan, comply with policies, and delegate appropriately while supervising other nursing personnel. Evaluate patient and family response to care and teaching, revise the plan of care, and assess progress toward goals and expected outcomes in collaboration with the health team. Document assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation in the patient record. Ensure documentation is legible, timely, and reflects objective/subjective data, interventions, and patient responses. Provide care based on the best evidence available and participate in research activities within clinical practice. Engage in unit or facility shared leadership and mentor or precept others when appropriate. Contribute to society by achieving excellent patient outcomes through timely, effective, efficient, equitable, and safe care. Participating in professional organizations and improving national nursing quality indicators. Supervise staff and workflow of the department in some roles. Interact with all levels of staff in a variety of departments, physicians, patients, families, and external contacts, providing support and clarifying information as needed. Work with clergy for spiritual support and prioritize data from multiple sources to respond to changes in health status. Minimum Qualifications Current, valid RN license in the state of practice, or temporary/interim RN license, or compact RN licensure covering the state of practice. BLS certification is required. Additional certification or continuing education may be required based on area of practice. Experience in the relevant clinical area is desired. Must maintain clinical performance competencies appropriate to the area through annual validations. Banner Registry and Travel acute care positions require a minimum of one year experience in an acute care hospital setting, including work in an acute care setting within the past 12 months as a Registered Nurse in the specialty area. Banner Registry and Travel physician practice positions require a minimum of one year experience as a Registered Nurse in a physician practice or an acute care setting. In a Home Health setting, team members must operate a personal vehicle, possess a valid driver’s license, and maintain active auto insurance coverage. Employees working at Banner Behavioral Health Hospital, BTMC Behavioral, Banner Home Care/Hospice, or Boswell Skilled Nursing Facility must possess an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card at the time of hire and maintain the card for the duration of employment. Employees working at Banner MD Anderson on the Banner University Medical Center Phoenix campus must possess a State of Arizona Department of Public Safety Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card at the time of hire and maintain the card for the duration of employment. Employees working in the Banner McKee Senior Behavioral Health Inpatient Unit must possess a Colorado Fingerprint Clearance Card at the time of hire and maintain the card for the duration of employment. Employees working in any Banner Staffing (BSS) Behavioral Health role in Arizona must possess a State of Arizona Department of Public Safety Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card at the time of hire and maintain the card for the duration of employment. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's degree preferred. Professional certification preferred. Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
