Job Overview Primary City/State: Mesa, Arizona Department Name: Neo-Natal ICU-Hosp Location: Banner Children's Hospital at Desert, 76‑bed neonatal intensive care unit with open pod layout for high acuity patients and private rooms for lower acuity patients. Work Shift: Night, 7PM–7:30AM. Full‑time with an 18% night shift differential and a flat $3/hour weekend shift differential. Job Category: Nursing. Unit Description The NICU serves a diverse neonatal population including micropremies, neuro patients, cardiac anomalies, surgical patients, ECMO and whole‑body cooling cases. The interdisciplinary team provides 24‑hour neonatology coverage and includes developmental therapists, nutritionists, PT/OT, SLP, and lactation consultants. Parents have access to private rooms and receive education and support throughout the hospital stay. Responsibilities As a NICU nurse at Banner Children’s at Desert, you will provide compassionate, critical‑thinking care in a highly acute environment, support families, and contribute to a team‑based, family‑centered model of care. Core Functions: Assess patient physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural, and discharge planning needs; review history, diagnostics and lab data, and report abnormal findings. Formulate and revise a patient‑specific plan of care and discharge plan in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team. Implement the plan of care through direct care, coordination, delegation and supervision of the healthcare team, and communicate patient status accurately to other caregivers. Evaluate patient and family response to care and teaching; revise the plan of care as needed and evaluate progress toward goals. Document assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation in the patient record in a timely, legible manner. Provide evidence‑based care, participate in research or quality improvement activities, and support the education of staff and patients when appropriate. Contribute to society through activities that promote excellent patient outcomes, equity and safety, and participate in professional organizations. In certain roles, supervise staff and manage department workflow. Interact with all levels of staff, physicians, patients, families and external contacts to facilitate care coordination and spiritual support. Minimum Qualifications Current, valid RN license in the state of practice (or temporary/interim or compact license). BLS certification is required. Must have recent acute care experience (within the past 12 months). Must maintain clinical performance competencies demonstrated through annual validations. Experience in high‑acuity neonatal care preferred. Additional certifications or continuing education may be required based on area of practice. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Nursing or related field. Professional neonatal certification (e.g., RN‑NICU) preferred. Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
