Registered Nurse RN Oncology Per Diem

Position Summary This position assesses, plans, implements, evaluates and documents nursing care of patients in accordance with organizational policies and with standards of professional nursing practice. The role is accountable for the quality of nursing services delivered by self or others under the nurse’s direction and requires specialized knowledge, judgment, and skills necessary to assess data and plan, provide and evaluate care appropriate to the physical and developmental age of assigned patients. Core Functions Assess patient physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural and discharge planning needs; review patient history and physical with patient/family; ensure timely completion of assessments; review information from other health‑care team members; review diagnostics and laboratory data and report abnormal results to physician(s) and other relevant caregivers; complete assessment and reassessments as outlined in policy. Formulate a plan of care, including the discharge plan, based on assessment data and patient, family, and health‑team input; initiate a plan based on patient‑specific needs; develop realistic, measurable goals with patient/family; consider physical, cultural, psychosocial, spiritual, age‑specific and educational needs; plan care in collaboration with multidisciplinary team members; review and revise the plan of care as patient needs change. Implement the plan of care through direct patient care, coordination, delegation and supervision of health‑care team activities; provide care per physician orders and nursing plan of care in compliance with policies, procedures, standards of care and regulatory requirements; delegate appropriately and provide nursing supervision; promote continuity of care by accurately communicating patient status to other caregivers. Evaluate patient and family response to care and teaching; revise the plan of care as needed; evaluate patient progress toward goals and expected outcomes in collaboration with other team members; evaluate effectiveness of patient teaching. Document assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation in the patient record; maintain legible, timely documentation in accordance with policy; record objective and subjective data, nursing interventions and patient response; accurately note physician orders in a timely manner. Provide care based on the best available evidence and may participate in clinical research; participate in unit or facility shared leadership; engage in education, role development and orientation of facility personnel, patients, students, families and visitors; promote support for others through precepting and mentoring when appropriate. Contribute to society through activities that lead to excellent patient outcomes through timely, effective, efficient, equitable, and safe care; actively participate in the improvement of national nursing quality indicators and outcomes; participate in professional organizations as appropriate. In some roles, supervise staff and workflow of the department. Interact with all levels of staff across departments, physicians, patients, families and external contacts such as other health‑care institutions, community providers and agencies to address patient health and clarify information; work with clergy to provide spiritual support; synthesize and prioritize data from multiple sources to support patient and family responses to changes in health status. Minimum Qualifications Current, valid RN license in state of practice (or temporary/interim RN license or compact RN licensure). BLS certification required. Minimum one year experience in an acute care hospital setting; recent experience in the specialty area within the last 12 months. For Home Health: ability to operate a personal vehicle and possession of a valid driver’s license; active auto insurance required. Fingerprint clearance card requirements specific to facilities and positions (details omitted for brevity). Banner Registry and Travel acute care roles require at least one year of acute care experience. Banner Registry and Travel physician practice roles require at least one year of experience as an RN in a physician practice or an acute care setting. Maintain clinical performance competencies appropriate to the area, demonstrated through annual validations. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s degree preferred.
