Our goal is to reflect the diversity of our clients and the communities in which we practice.About the RoleThe Managing Attorney - Regional serves as a senior procedural advisor and operational leader in the Managing Attorney’s Office (“MAO”). The Managing Attorney - Regional advises attorneys and case teams on litigation, arbitration, appellate, and regulatory proceedings by researching and analyzing procedural issues; advising on procedural strategy, court rules, filing requirements, court practices, and deadline calculations; reviewing filings and related materials; and developing practical solutions to complex procedural questions. The Managing Attorney - Regional promotes sound litigation practices, procedural compliance, informed decision-making, and risk mitigation.The Managing Attorney - Regional oversees the daily workflows of assigned offices and core MAO services, including court filings, docketing, calendaring, court services, service of process, personnel supervision, and the MAO’s knowledge, experience, and analytics capabilities. The Managing Attorney - Regional ensures that filings, deadline calculations, calendar entries, and other litigation-related tasks are completed accurately, on time, and consistent with applicable rules, court practices, procedures, and Firm standards.The Managing Attorney - Regional combines substantive legal and procedural acumen with practical leadership and personnel management. The Managing Attorney - Regional develops MAO personnel, resolves operational challenges, and translates complex requirements into useful guidance for attorneys, clients, and colleagues.The Managing Attorney - Regional shares responsibility with the other department leadership for departmental operations, staffing, resource allocation, service delivery, establishing priorities, advancing initiatives, and guiding the MAO’s long-term direction.The Managing Attorney - Regional demonstrates a strong commitment to professionalism by setting clear expectations and ensuring the delivery of high‑quality service; fosters and reinforces a positive, solution‑oriented (‘can‑do’) approach across the team; and ensures effective support of internal departments, external clients, and vendors by modeling and requiring clear, courteous communication through electronic correspondence, telephone, and in person interactions.What You Will Be DoingProcedural GuidanceAdvise attorneys and case teams on procedural and strategic issues in litigation, arbitration, appellate matters, and regulatory proceedings.Research and analyze federal, state, local, and electronic filing rules, including individual judges’ rules, requirements, procedures, practices, standing orders, and filing requirements, with attention to developments that trigger filing, calendaring, or other procedural obligations for case teams or MAO operations.Provide technical guidance and practical advice on civil and appellate procedure; court rules, local rules, standing orders, filing requirements, court practices, procedural strategy, and deadline calculation and calendaring.Review court filings and related documents for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable rules and filing requirements.Prepare and present CLEs, training programs, written guidance, and other educational resources.Operations and LeadershipLead assigned MAO operations, including court filings, docketing, calendaring, court services, service of process, and related support functions.Ensure that court filings, deadline calculations, calendar entries, and other litigation-related tasks are completed accurately, on time, and consistent with applicable rules, court practices, procedures, and Firm standards.Oversee processes for identifying and responding to court documents, notices, orders, and other events that trigger filing, calendaring, or related procedural obligations.Coordinate staffing, workloads, resources, and coverage across offices and time zones to support service delivery and continuity.Share responsibility with the other Managing Attorney - Regional and senior department staff for departmental operations, staffing coordination, resource allocation, and service delivery across offices.Work with the Counsel - Managing Attorney, the other Managing Attorney - Regional , and senior department staff to set departmental priorities, advance initiatives, plan resources, and guide the MAO’s long-term direction.Knowledge, Experience, and AnalyticsDevelop and maintain the MAO’s knowledge-management and experience-management resources and services.Capture, organize, and share procedural guidance, court practices, precedents, filing resources, and institutional knowledge.Help attorneys and MAO personnel identify and apply relevant institutional knowledge, prior experience, and analytical resources to current matters.Source, evaluate, and synthesize internal and external data concerning courts, judges, litigation activity, filing practices, workloads, and MAO services.Use data and analytics to support case teams, departmental planning, resource allocation, Firm initiatives, and business development.Collaborate with knowledge management, experience management, research, innovation, technology, data, and other business-professional teams to improve access to reliable information and institutional experience.Team Development and CollaborationSupervise, recruit, train, mentor, and develop assigned MAO personnel.Monitor work through completion and hold personnel accountable for accurate, timely, and high-quality results.Promote ownership, collaboration, accountability, and consistent management practices across the MAO.Build productive relationships across offices and with attorneys, business professionals, courts, agencies, vendors, and other service providers.Required SkillsWhat You Will Bring to This PositionExtensive knowledge of federal and state court systems, civil and appellate procedure, court and agency rules, filing requirements, and court practices; familiarity with New York, California, Colorado, Massachusetts, and/or Washington, D.C., court systems and procedures preferred.Ability to conduct sophisticated legal and procedural research, analyze complex procedural and strategic issues, and provide clear, accurate, practical guidance.Ability to identify documents and events that trigger filing, calendaring, and other procedural obligations.Ability to identify, evaluate, and apply institutional knowledge, prior experience, and data to support legal and operational decision-making.Proficiency with federal and state court websites, electronic filing systems, and court research and litigation-information platforms, including PACER, Bloomberg Law, and Lex Machina.Familiarity with automated docketing and calendaring systems, including CourtAlert or comparable platforms, and with the controls needed to maintain accurate and reliable calendar data.Demonstrated interest in using emerging legal technologies, including AI-enabled research, drafting, workflow, knowledge-management, experience-management, and analytics tools, to improve analysis, efficiency, and service delivery.Demonstrated ability to supervise personnel and direct substantive and operational work involving competing demands, shifting priorities, and time-sensitive requirements.Excellent research, writing, communication, and presentation skills, including the ability to explain complex legal and procedural issues clearly and effectively.Ability to exercise sound judgment, work independently, and perform effectively in a fast-paced environment.Strong interpersonal skills and a practical, responsive, solution-oriented approach to client service and cross-office collaboration.Remains open to technological change as generative AI becomes more integrated into the firm’s practice, actively develop comfort with new tools, and adapt how work is performed to support efficiency and innovation.Availability and flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.Required ExperienceMinimum 7 years of relevant experience, including at least three years in a supervisory role within a Managing Attorney’s Office, Clerk’s Office, comparable legal operations function, or litigation practice.EducationJD required. The candidate must be an active member in good standing of the bar of a U.S. jurisdiction associated with a WilmerHale office or be immediately eligible for admission by waiver.
