Nursing Professional Development Generalist: (Emergency Dept)

Job Summary This NPDG will be supporting the Emergency Department at Illinois Masonic in Lakeview neighborhood of Chicago. The primary focus is on the site level while also supporting system initiatives as needed. The role develops, coordinates, and implements new employee orientation, training programs, and continuing education for all nursing staff and other healthcare team members. It applies advanced nursing knowledge to deliver evidence‑based nursing and educational interventions along specialty or department lines, designs, implements, and evaluates educational programs that reflect organizational vision and values, and utilizes the educational design process to bridge knowledge, skills, and practice gaps identified through a needs assessment. The role contributes to the professional development of others and supports lifelong learning for individuals across practice settings. Responsibilities Assist with competency management, using tools that capture objective and subjective data regarding an individual’s knowledge base and performance. Design educational activities to address practice gaps for identified target audiences in consultation with an NPD Specialist. Utilize adult learning principles in planning, designing, implementing, and evaluating educational activities to facilitate desired learning outcomes. Collaborate with system and operational leadership to meet the education needs of the site and nursing departments. Adjust materials and teaching strategies to fit the learner’s developmental level, learning needs, readiness, ability to learn, language preference, and culture. Use assistive aids and technologies as needed to meet learner needs. Evaluate and analyze the impact of programming on learners, organizational resources, and patient outcomes, making adjustments in consultation with an NPD Specialist. Establish and implement appropriate evaluation tools and methodologies to identify knowledge, skills, and competency gaps of nursing personnel.
