Supervisor, Biospecimen Management (Tuesday-Saturday - AM Shift - Starting at 8am)

Position Summary The Biospecimen Management (BSM) Supervisor is responsible for the general supervision of BSM personnel and the daily operations of the BSM Laboratory. The role involves receiving, unpacking, processing samples, recording them for laboratory testing, performing quality control and assurance procedures, and ensuring compliance with all applicable laboratory requirements. The supervisor leads, mentors, and manages a team, coordinates with cross‑functional departments, and drives process improvement. Responsibilities Provide day‑to‑day supervision of BSM personnel. Operate the pre‑analytical laboratory: receive, unpack, and process all incoming clinical specimens. Coach and mentor Biorepository Technicians and Associates. Manage the testing and validation of new laboratory equipment and procedures. Identify process improvement opportunities and present to the Director. Perform, review, and document laboratory quality control procedures. Operate and maintain laboratory equipment as needed. Recruit and train BSM staff and keep personnel files updated. Represent the BSM Department in cross‑functional meetings. Maintain operational relationships with IT/LIS departments for modification requests. Collaborate with Clinical Operations Supervisors and Client Services to develop efficiencies and ensure SOPs are met. Perform administrative duties: write and review employee performance evaluations, SOPs, protocols, sample tracking and equipment maintenance forms. Maintain stringent quality standards; identify and report any issues affecting test results or employee safety. Manage and lead department projects and goals. Document corrective actions taken for deviations from performance specifications. Assist with internal audits and inspection preparation. Report all concerns of test quality and/or safety to a Manager or Safety Officer. Perform other miscellaneous duties as assigned. Qualifications Bachelor of Arts or Science in Biomedical Laboratory Science, Clinical Science, or related field (preferred). At least 3 years of related experience within healthcare or a clinical laboratory (preferred). Previous supervisory or management experience (preferred). High level of competency in pre‑analytical sample processing steps. Proactive, clear, and honest communication skills. Strong computer skills. Strong communicator capable of maintaining open communication with internal employees, managers, and customers. Strong analysis and problem‑solving skills. Ability to prepare and maintain records and logs. Ability to integrate and apply feedback professionally. Ability to prioritize tasks and achieve quality results. Ability to analyze and solve basic issues. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Hybrid Work Model This position is onsite. Employees living within 50 miles of a Guardant facility will be required to be onsite on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. Guardant provides on‑site collaboration and work‑from‑home days for individual‑focused time to support work‑life balance. Salary Base salary ranges: Redwood City, CA: $120,000 – $165,000.
