Provides medical information, educates and demonstrates the benefits of key products and patients. Coordinates education workshops per management direction. May explore and identify sites for clinical trials per direction from leadership. Demonstrates mastery of disease state and product knowledge. Works independently and exhibits a take-charge attitude. Requires increased skill sets including, but not limited to: taking initiative, working creatively, adding value to the region and country by creating and sharing best practices and assisting others in the team to succeed. This position requires less supervision. Within Field Medical Affairs, this position functions as a scientific liaison between NNI and key external customers to further scientific exchange. S/he provides advanced product and scientific and medical field support to Medical, Sales and Marketing, as well as Managed Care and Government by using academic credentials and scientific expertise to communicate with health care providers, organized providers/accounts and other relevant healthcare organizations. Strategic determination of change of territory prioritization will be based on customer need and analytics which identify need for change. This may occur at any time throughout the annual performance cycle.RelationshipsPosition reports to Field Director/Senior Field Director. Represents the organization externally as the primary field technical and scientific contact for clinicians (including physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, pharmacists, diabetes educators), professional societies, academic medical centers, integrated delivery networks, managed care organizations, etc. Represents the organization internally as the primary field technical and scientific contact for NNI field teams (e.g., primary care, specialty and institutional/health systems sales and sales management, clinical research associates, diabetes educators, state government affairs, Health Economics Outcomes Research (HEOR), etc.).Essential FunctionsAdministrative Duties:Completes administrative duties in an accurate manner and on a timely basis, in line with current SOPs and working practicesEnsures and performs effective administrative management of regional business as well as operational budgetsMaintains thorough understanding of all relevant Novo Nordisk processes and procedures and proactively assist other FMA members to further their understanding with these as neededProvides accurate monthly reports on scientific support activities in region to Director including budget expenditures as directedRecords all activities within One Stop Shop (OSS) and all expenses within Concur in accordance with FMA proceduresAdvocacy & Professional Relationship Development:Applies advanced technical principles, theories and concepts of NNI, its products, current scientific research and publications associated with therapeutic area of interestAttends and presents in assigned medical and scientific meetings: a) maintains knowledge of the latest issues and new data pertaining to NNI products; b) develops and establishes relationships with health care and IHN providers; c) develops and support appropriate use of NNI products and greater utilization of its services d) supports representatives and HSMs in answering questions from health care and IHN providersCombines account management skills, business acumen and scientific expertise to enhance value and develop collaborative relationshipsDevelops and provides ongoing product and scientific updates for the Region as requestedEncourages and stimulates ideas, questions and input in special Regional projects (e.g., team meetings, training, etc.)Establishes relationships with academic centers and investigators to participate in clinical trials and identify key areas of future researchEstablishes relationships with health care providers, IHNs and Key Formulary Influencers (KFIs) to further the knowledge of NNI products and their appropriate use; when necessary, anticipates and prepares resolution to resolve issues pertaining to that useEstablishes the medical account strategy/plan through the identification and cultivation of key relationships and brings forth appropriate collaboration opportunitiesGathers customer insight regarding NNI and competitors products to help inform medical and commercial decision makingIdentifies and prepares responses to inquiries and develops relationships with major health care professionals and IHNs; liaises with those individuals with novel research concepts, clinical experience and expertise, within identified therapeutic areas of interest to Novo Nordisk IncIdentifies and recruits qualified investigators to participate in company-sponsored activities (e.g., speaker, investigator, or consultant) as directed by Home OfficeCoordination Of Educational Programs:Prepares and reviews training materials for the FMA teamResponds to unsolicited inquiries about Novo Nordisks grants and charitable contributions programReviews training of sales representatives on product knowledge and understanding of technical information within the therapeutic areaServes as mentor for new hire or more junior FMA colleaguesDemonstrated Leadership:Proactively Shares better practices and knowledge with FMA teamServes as mentor for new hire or more junior FMA colleaguesUnderstands and demonstrates the value of working with related departments such as Sales, Marketing and MedicalField-Based Clinical Support:Attends and presents in assigned medical and scientific meetings as a technical lead: a) maintains knowledge of the latest issues and new data pertaining to NNI products; b) develops and establishes relationships with health care providers; c) conveys appropriate use of NNI productsCollaborates with Marketing and Sales management to develop scientific strategies to optimize NNIs products and development activities in the medical communityCollaborates with respective HSM to provide scientific and clinical education to Chief Executives, Medical Directors and formulary stakeholders to secure proper access to Novo Nordisks products and services in respective IHNsCollaborates with trial/study investigation sites; ensuring effective coordination and facilitation of studies to ensure timely review, initiation and completion, as well as publication of study results. Provides clinical support in cooperation with other Novo Nordisk groups to ensure investigators demonstrate appropriate knowledge of studies, support patient recruitment and retention activities, answers responsive requests from investigators and provides feedback to sites to other groupsCoordinates with key internal stakeholders to provide customized and dedicated system-wide clinical education and support within respective IHNs and coordinate and manage professional relations of Novo Nordisk within these Networks from an overall account management levelCoordinates with regional FMA team members to ensure integrated comprehensive coverage of regional clinical and scientific needsDevelops and presents product and scientific updates as requested, including Formulary presentations within IHNs, using approved materialEstablishes and maintains functional working relationships with Clinical Research Associates within the region to further scientific exchangeIdentifies and facilitates submission of potential Pharmaco-Economic and Outcomes Research-type studies and investigator-sponsored studies from the IHNs and refer requests for research grants to the appropriate in-house review committees as directed.Physical Requirements50-75% overnight travel required; Driver must maintain a valid driver’s license. Must be in good standing by not exceeding the Novo Nordisk points threshold assigned based on review of Motor Vehicle Records. Territory is AZ, NV, UT, NM.QualificationsDoctoral degree requiredA minimum of five years experience in a health related system, pharmaceutical company, or managed care environment, including four years demonstrated success in a field medical liaison role requiredRelevant clinical and/or therapeutic experience preferredDisplays business acumen/knowledge based on experiences such as participation in formulary process decisionsStrong communication and collaboration skills requiredThis position is part of a job family. Title and level within the job family are evaluated based on a number of factors, such as years of experience, scope of work, proficiency, and business need. Candidates will be assessed for the most appropriate title and level within the job family during the recruitment process. The base range of pay for each title in this job family are as follows:• Medical Liaison - $116,820 to $216,100• Senior Medical Liaison - $148,290 to $259,510 In addition, this position is eligible for a company bonus based on individual and company performance.
