Additional Information About the Role Trauma Unit (6400 & 6500) Barnes-Jewish Hospital | Full-Time | Nights Schedule: Three 12-hour shifts per week Sign-On Bonus: $15,000 Join Missouri's Leading Level I Trauma Center The Trauma Department at Barnes-Jewish Hospital is the busiest Level I Trauma Center in Missouri, caring for more than 14,500 trauma patients annually. Nationally recognized for excellence in trauma care, our multidisciplinary team delivers compassionate, high-quality care to patients with some of the most complex and critical injuries. About Units 6400 & 6500: Units 6400 and 6500 are combined Trauma, Geriatric Trauma, and Acute Care Surgery nursing divisions with a total capacity of 63 beds. Nurses on these units develop specialized expertise while caring for a diverse patient population with traumatic injuries and acute surgical conditions. Patient Populations Include: Motor vehicle accident injuries Gunshot and stab wounds Traumatic amputations Fall-related injuries Spinal cord injuries Traumatic brain injuries In addition to trauma patients, nurses provide care for acute care surgery patients admitted through the Emergency Department. Barnes-Jewish Hospital's staff is composed of full-time academic faculty and community physicians of Washington University School of Medicine, supported by a house staff of residents, interns, fellows and other medical professionals. Recognizing its excellence in nursing care, Barnes-Jewish Hospital was the first adult hospital in Missouri to be certified as a Magnet Hospital by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. The Surgical Services Department provides pre-op and post-op inpatient care to those patients undergoing specialty surgical procedures in the areas of abdominal solid organ transplant, vascular surgery, hepatobiliary, trauma, ear-nose and throat, orthopedic, colo-rectal, urology and other general surgical procedures.¿ Inpatient care in this department focuses on pre-op needs, post-op care and treatment after phase I recovery through discharge from an inpatient nursing division. The department's surgical observation unit and ICU provide intensive care and treatment to those post-op or post-traumatic patients whose condition requires treatment at this level. Preferred Qualifications Role Purpose Provides direct patient care activities including assessment, diagnosis, planning implementation, and evaluation within the guidelines of the standards of nursing care. Responsibilities Promotes patient and family centered care in a healing environment. Educates patients and their families on how to manage their illness or injury, including post treatment home care needs and medication administration. Participates in activities that promote patient safety, quality and regulatory compliance. Participates in professional development. Develops, implements, and documents individual plans of care with defined goals in collaboration with other members of the interprofessional team and patient, family or caregiver in accordance with the established guidelines and standards of nursing care. Proactively plans and ensures communication of the plan of care across the continuum of care. Uses critical nursing skills to assess and evaluate physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs according to standards of care. Assess patient preferences and barriers to involvement in care, including their values, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and population-specific needs. BJC has determined this is a safety-sensitive position. The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner is an essential function of this job.
