Job Description: BBQ Department Floor Supervisor

Reports to: Assistant Manager/Manager/General Manager/Owner

Direct Reports: Sales Associates/Cashiers

Tentative Schedule: At least 1 day a week, the Floor Supervisor will open the store at 7:30am, close the store at 8pm, and work 1 weekend day (Saturday or Sunday)

Owenhouse Ace Hardware is looking for a BBQ Department Floor Supervisor to take ownership of one of the most exciting departments in our store. This isn't just a job where you stock shelves and answer questions. You'll become the go-to person for our BBQ department, helping customers discover the right products, building a knowledgeable team, working with some of the industry's best brands, and helping create an awesome experience for everyone who walks through our doors. 

The Floor Supervisor’s primary responsibility is to ensure the store is providing exceptional customer service at all times. Floor Supervisors are responsible for leading associates involved with activities in the front and back end of our stores which include the sales floor, check-out areas, service counter, receiving, and backstock areas. Floor Supervisors will be expected to be a department head as well as having 1-2 additional significant responsibilities that will be assigned by the store manager.

Sales and Operations:

• Own the BBQ department. Keep it organized, stocked, faced, clean, and visually exciting.
• Become the BBQ expert. Develop strong knowledge of grills, smokers, pizza ovens, outdoor cooking products, fuel, accessories, and the brands we carry.
• Coach and develop associates. Share product knowledge, help team members improve their selling skills, and lead by example. 
• Help create memorable events. BBQ demos, grilling events, pizza oven demonstrations, vendor events, and seasonal promotions are a big part of what makes this department special. 
• Drive store sales by ensuring that all customers are receiving the level of service that is expected from Owenhouse Ace Hardware: to amaze every customer, every time
• Performing and providing topics for daily huddles in-person & on Trello/Dexter
• Help forecast scheduling needs to meet customer demand
• Ensuring employees are in the appropriate places and doing the appropriate tasks so that a high level of customer service is provided throughout the day. In order to achieve this, Floor Supervisors should be on the floor a majority of the day and routinely take walks around the entire floor to ensure we have sufficient staff in place to help customers.
• Floor Supervisors are expected to provide a high level of customer service, being sure to use the WOW process, and to help associates in providing excellence in customer service.
• Resolve customer complaints in a timely and satisfactory manner.
• Performing and providing topics for daily huddles.
• Maintain a department within the store. A Floor Supervisor's department should be a shining example of how we expect a department to be run at Owenhouse, from stock levels, facing, and merchandising to backstock.
• Assign tasks to Dexter and ensure that staff members are completing these tasks.
• Help maintain accurate records by understanding and ensuring store procedures are followed.
• Ensure that all calls are answered. Sometimes no one answers a call or no one knows the answer to a question, a floor supervisor needs to answer when no one else does or can.
• Enforce safety policies and procedures and be a safety role model.
• Floor Supervisors will be expected to perform MOD responsibilities on a regular basis.
• Walking the floor regularly looking for areas that need improvement, delegating those tasks and checking in on them at completion
• Ensuring people are in the appropriate places and doing the appropriate tasks so that a high level of customer service is provided throughout the day. In order to achieve this, the Floor Supervisor should be on or near the floor a majority of the day and routinely take walks around the entire floor to ensure we have sufficient staff in place to help customers.

Requirements:

• Possess a vast product knowledge of hardware related products along with a willingness to learn.
• Skills/Knowledge: solid leadership and team building skills.
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in all situations.
• Strong problem-solving and organizational skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to handle multiple projects and tasks with a high attention to detail.
• Knowledge of retail computer systems, word processing and spreadsheet software.
• Ability and willingness to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends and holidays to meet the needs of the business.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to operate forklift equipment safely and effectively.
• Must be in good physical condition and work wisely.
• Unloading of freight is to be accomplished safely, carefully, and quickly with care not to injure stock or self.
• Must be physically able to lift and handle a minimum of 50lbs.
• Proper lifting procedures must be followed at all times.
• Ability to bend and twist, push and pull, stoop, and kneel.
• Ability to ascend and descend a ladder.
• Ability to work at heights.
• Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
• Ability to hear, understand and communicate orally and in writing to customers and staff.

Other Responsibilities

• Participate in daily Huddle meetings and team chores as directed by management.
• Participate in employees 1-2-1 process.
• Attend necessary training and meetings.
• Utilize Dexter for appropriate communications.
• Manage all correspondence related to this position, including email communications.
• Monitor reports pertinent to this position.
• Maintain all files relevant to this position.
• Assist in answering phones.
• Assist customers and other employees as needed.
• Assist with deliveries as needed.

Owenhouse Cycling is part of the Owenhouse Hardware Company, founded in 1879. When we say we’ve been in the biking business for a long time, we mean it! What started as a mercantile carrying all the goods a person of that time would need, including bikes, and have since grown and expanded to become what is now Owenhouse Cycling and Owenhouse Ace Hardware. The Owenhouse Cycling building was originally constructed in 1949 as a showroom for tractors and other farming implements. Things have changed a bit over the years, with our latest remodel taking place in 2014.
