Horton, Inc. is currently looking for an Head of Litigation. The right candidate will serve as the senior executive responsible for overseeing all litigation, claims management, and dispute-resolution activities. This role directs enterprise-wide litigation strategy, leading a high-performing team that manages complex legal matters, outside counsel, and litigation risk across all divisions and business units.Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.Set and execute litigation strategy, ensuring alignment with corporate goals, risk posture, and regulatory obligationsDirect all phases of litigation and claims management, including case assessment, strategy development, negotiations, settlement decisions, and trial oversightProvide expert legal counsel to executive, region and division leadership on high-risk legal matters and emerging litigation trendsCollaborate with and provide regular updates to region and division leadership on active and potential litigation matters, ensuring alignment on risk assessments, strategy, and resolution planningEstablish and enforce legal governance standards, litigation protocols, and documentation practices that strengthen defensibility and reduce exposure to operational, contractual, and regulatory riskOversee internal investigations related to litigation, claims, and significant incidents, ensuring timely, accurate, and legally sound findingsSelect, manage, and evaluate outside counsel, ensuring effective legal representation, cost control, and alignment with the company’s strategic objectivesLead, develop, and elevate the corporate litigation team, ensuring high performance, strong legal acumen, and exceptional support for divisions nationwideParticipate in crisis-response and incident-management effortsPromote a culture of accountability, collaboration, communication and ethical legal practice aligned with corporate values and expectationsConduct all business in a professional and ethical manner with transparent communications and collaboration to serve customers and increase the goodwill and profit of the companyAbility to travel overnightSupervisory ResponsibilitiesSupervises 2 or more employeesQualificationsEducation and/or ExperienceJuris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school; active bar membership in at least one U.S. jurisdiction12+ years of progressive litigation experience, including significant experience managing complex, high-exposure mattersProven leadership experience overseeing corporate litigation teams or serving as lead counselDemonstrated experience managing outside counsel, budgets, and litigation operationsStrong verbal and written communication skills are required.Strong computer skills are required. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and the ability to learn new programs/systems quickly is essentialAbility to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written oral form or via DRH applicationsAbility to sit for majority of 8-hour workday; use hands and fingers to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear.
