Facilities Maintenance Assistant (Environmental Waste)
SMS Staffing is hiring immediately for facilities maintenance assistants! Job location: North Chicago, IL. Job type: temp to hire. Pay: $18-20/hour. 1st shift: 7:00 am - 3:30 pm (Monday - Friday).
Job summary for facilities maintenance assistant role:
SMS Staffing is seeking facilities maintenance assistants to support environmental and building maintenance operations in a fast-paced industrial setting. This hands-on role involves working both indoors and outdoors with exposure to various environmental conditions.
Job duties:
- Pump and remove rainwater and contaminated water from pits
- Operate forklifts and move totes safely
- Power wash pits, drains, equipment and collect water samples, as needed
- Perform building maintenance (repairs, cleaning, inspections)
- Assist with snow removal
- Push, pull and move pails, drums, totes, etc, using various means
- Assist in data entry of sample records, hazardous waste records, etc.
Qualification requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent. Basic math, writing, and reading skills. Basic building maintenance skills are a must. Forklift experience, preferred. Must have a valid driver's license.
Special circumstances of the job:
Able to operate power and hand tools, including: pressure washer, floor scrubber, and work with pumps. Lift heavy objects (up to 50 lbs). Must be able to wear safety equipment (e.g., respirators, gloves, acid suit, goggles, steel-toe work boots, face shield, etc.). Able to work outdoors during inclement weather. Able to climb, stoop, and stand for long periods of time.
