Arts in Action Community Charter School opened in Fall 2011 with grades K-5. The elementary program aims to provide a rigorous academic foundation while developing the whole child through a rich arts program, a daily socio-emotional learning component, and modeling advocacy through social justice initiatives.
Arts in Action Community Middle School opened in Fall 2016 and serves grades 6-8 students. We believe that all students deserve access to the arts. We believe that instruction should be culturally relevant, inclusive and meet the diverse needs of all learners. JOB DESCRIPTION: The After-School Program Leader supports the school's extended learning program by providing academic, enrichment, and supervisory support to students during after-school hours. Under the direction of school and program leadership, the After-School Program Leader works with individual students and small groups to reinforce classroom instruction, promote student engagement, support positive behavior, and foster a safe, inclusive, and enriching learning environment. This position collaborates with teachers and staff to support students' academic, social-emotional, and developmental needs while contributing to the overall success of the after-school program.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Create and submit lesson plans.
- Lead and facilitate homework help sessions, enrichment activities, and physical education activities.
- Ensure students are safely signed in and out of the program daily using our student attendance software.
- Create and maintain a welcoming, safe environment for all students.
- Reports problems of a serious nature, including recurring behavioral problems and safety hazards, to the after-school coordinator or Director of Community Engagement & Enrichment.
- Clean and organize the classroom space used during the program hours.
- Picking up students from their classroom and taking them to the eating area for supper.
- Support enrichment teachers during assigned enrichment classes.
- Actively supervise students and keep students safe.
- Enforce activity and safety rules in school buildings and on school property.
- Other duties as assigned by the School Directors or Direct supervisor.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of HS diploma and currently enrolled in a Community College or University.
- Demonstrated successful experience working with elementary-age students.
- Ability to establish and maintain productive working relationships with staff, students, and stakeholders.
- Ability to work on multiple tasks and prioritize appropriately.
- Ability to recognize areas of concern relating to student issues.
- Solutions-oriented.
- Ability to communicate effectively.

- This position works primarily indoors, indoor offices with some outdoor work (including eating and common area(s), school amphitheater , playground(s), restroom(s), stairs if applicable, and parking lot (s)) with the following possible exposures: dust, wind, sun, insects; bloodborne pathogens and biohazardous waste; variances in temperature (60 degrees to 110 degrees); variances in weather conditions (snow, rain, etc.); noise which can range from quiet to loud (over 400 students on campus at any given time); fast-paced work environment with possible stressful situations and needs to multitask; traffic congestion; playground projectiles such as baseballs, footballs, basketballs, etc.; intervening physically to stop conflicts between angry or emotionally upset students; and, dealing with students, parents, employees and the general public who may exhibit unpredictable or anti-social behavior.

WAGE AND BENEFITS: This is a part-time, 10-month, non-exempt hourly position that follows the academic school year calendar, with the possibility of additional summer employment based on organizational needs and program availability. The wage rate is $25.00 an hour.
In addition to a competitive hourly rate, the organization offers an optional employee-paid benefits package for part-time staff that may include life insurance, Aflac supplementary insurance plans, Legal/ID Shield, Pet insurance, and METRO E-Pass in accordance with applicable plan documents and organizational policies.
