Founding Engineer

LumenUs is a bereavement platform designed to help families navigate the emotional and practical challenges in the months and years following the loss of a loved one. We collaborate with employers, hospices, funeral services, life insurance providers, and financial institutions to offer meaningful support to the families they serve. Role Description This is a full-time hybrid role for a Founding Engineer, based in San Francisco, CA, with flexibility for some remote work. As a Founding Engineer, you will be instrumental in designing and building the technical architecture of our platform. Responsibilities include developing and implementing scalable applications, contributing to product development, maintaining system reliability, and collaborating with cross‑functional teams to ensure alignment with business objectives. You will also have the opportunity to shape technical strategies and contribute insights that drive our company’s growth and mission. Qualifications Knowledge of cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud), database systems, and API integration is essential. Experience with technical architecture design, system scalability, and performance optimization. Strong problem‑solving skills and the ability to innovate and adapt in a fast‑paced startup environment. Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with a focus on teamwork and delivering high‑quality solutions. Familiarity or experience with health‑focused or SaaS platforms is a plus but not required.
