Primary Responsibilities:

• Deliver comprehensive care to veterans suffering from gastrointestinal disorders, including diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up.
• Conduct a variety of endoscopic procedures.
• Work alongside a multidisciplinary healthcare team to create personalized treatment plans for patients.
• Contribute to the education of medical students, residents, and fellows through teaching, mentorship, and clinical oversight.
• Engage in clinical research projects and participate in scholarly activities within gastroenterology.
• Take part in on-call rotations and provide inpatient gastroenterology consultations.
• Collaborate closely with the VA administration and faculty from the medical school to align with institutional objectives.

Note: Experience in Inflammatory Bowel Disease and Advanced Endoscopy is advantageous.

Qualifications:

• MD or DO degree from an accredited institution.
• Board certification in Gastroenterology.
• Eligibility for licensure in Maryland.
• A proven commitment to patient care, education, and research.
• Experience with or a willingness to participate in clinical trials or research projects is preferred.

Academic Appointment:

This role includes a faculty position at the medical school, with rank based on experience and academic accomplishments. The successful candidate will have opportunities for career advancement through contributions in research, teaching, and service.

This position qualifies for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) , which offers student loan repayment assistance. Candidates must meet specific eligibility criteria as per VHA policy and submit their EDRP application within four months of their appointment. Approval, award amounts (up to $200,000), and eligibility periods (ranging from one to five years) will be determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after reviewing the application.

Incentives Available (for eligible candidates)

Compensation: Competitive salary ranging from $350,000 to $400,000, with an annual performance bonus of up to $15,000 and regular salary increments.

Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid leave annually, including 26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid federal holidays, and a potential 5-day paid absence for CME.

Retirement: Traditional federal pension (with a 5-year vesting period) and a federal 401K plan with contributions of up to 5% from the VA.

Insurance: Comprehensive federal health, vision, dental, term life, and long-term care insurance (many federal insurance options can be maintained into retirement).

Licensure: One full and unrestricted license from any U.S. state or territory.

CME: Potential reimbursement of $1,000 per year (must be full-time with board certification).

Malpractice: Liability protection with tail coverage provided at no cost.

Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and minimal restrictions on moonlighting.

Additional Compensation Information:

Annual base salary increases will be provided as mandated by federal law (the 5-year average increase was 2.92% as of 2024), along with biennial within-grade or "step" longevity increases and market pay adjustments based on additional credentials, promotions, or local market conditions.
