Basic Functions To teach and contribute to the Biological Sciences Program, with a focus on human anatomy and physiology and modern biomedical science techniques, at the community college level. The department seeks a biologist with a strong commitment to teaching and the ability to integrate inclusive pedagogy and strategies for a diverse student population. Responsibilities Teach lectures and laboratories in Anatomy, Physiology, General Biology, and other majors/non-majors courses as assigned. Maintain office hours sufficient to meet student needs and engage in college service, committee work, and other departmental responsibilities. Participate in activities to improve teaching and student success; teaching assignments may include weeknights and Saturdays. Conduct cadaver-based instruction in human anatomy and utilize classical and current physiological laboratory technologies (e.g., Biopac, ECG, ELISA). Develop and deliver courses in a manner inclusive of diverse learning styles and student preparedness; plan and implement campus-wide events to support Biomedical/STEM course success. Contribute to the design and delivery of distance education courses and online instruction as needed. Engage in ongoing assessment of student learning outcomes and participate in department and institutional initiatives related to student success and equity. Education and Experience / Qualifications Minimum qualifications as approved by the California Community Colleges Board of Governors and defined in the Minimum Qualifications for Faculty and Administrators in California Community Colleges Handbook: Master's in any biological science, OR Bachelor's in any biological science and Master's in biochemistry, biophysics, or marine science, OR the equivalent, OR Combination of education and experience at least equivalent to the above. Equivalency applicants must submit an Application for Equivalency and related materials. Evidence of sensitivity to and understanding of diverse student and staff backgrounds; commitment to community college mission; awareness of Hispanic-Serving designation implications for practices. Possess a combination of education and experience deemed equivalent by SBCC standards. Knowledge and Abilities Strong knowledge of human anatomy and physiology; experience with cadaver-based instruction and physiology lab techniques; ability to adapt instruction for diverse learners. Experience with planning, organizing, and implementing campus-wide events to enhance Biomedical/STEM course success. Experience developing or delivering distance education courses and online instruction. Familiarity with Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) and their use to support student learning; ability to incorporate inclusive and anti-racist pedagogy. Commitment to serving racially/ethnically diverse post-traditional student populations and a community college mission.
