Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Medicine Specialty: Pediatrics Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Nights Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum 1 year of pediatric nursing experience; 3 years of level I trauma experience required License: Current RN license issued by the state board of nursing or a current multistate compact RN license Certifications: Current Basic Life Support certification; PALS certification Must-Have: Knowledge of professional nursing theory, practices, techniques, and procedures Description: Under general supervision, provides nursing care in a hospital to a variety of patients with health problems ranging from simple to complex. Assumes responsibility for an assigned group of patients. Documents patient responses to nursing interventions and prescribed medical treatments. Notes all changes in physician orders for assigned patients. Assists physician in examining patients and performing minor diagnostic procedures and treatments. Obtains and monitors physiological data of patients. Observes the physiological manifestations of patients and intervenes when necessary. Administers medication as prescribed. Initiates, regulates, and monitors intravenous infusions and blood products. Delivers patient care competently. Interacts with patients and families in sharing care plans while in the hospital and at discharge. Informs patients and families of hospital procedures. Makes referrals regarding patient care needs to appropriate personnel. Delegates tasks to support staff. Performs other duties as assigned. This position requires floating to various medical and surgical units, as well as specialty areas. Holiday and weekend shifts are required. Must be able to respond effectively to the cultural and language needs of patients and visitors. Good verbal and written communication skills are essential. Ability to organize, plan, coordinate, and evaluate nursing services. Maintains good working relationships with other employees. Some computer skills are required.
