The final classification and starting salary will be based on the qualifications of the selected candidate.At the Electronic Technician Senior level, the position performs highly technical work constructing, repairing, and maintaining traffic related electronic equipment under general supervision. Duties include installing, repairing, maintaining, and operating traffic control devices so that devices will operate in the field efficiently and effectively; repairing, maintaining, and modifying signal cabinets to specifications; performing preliminary checkout procedures to signal cabinets and traffic related electronic equipment; testing bench equipment to assure proper operation during maintenance and repair procedures; responding to repair calls or replace of equipment in the field. Additionally, the position installs, repairs, and maintains telecommunication systems and equipment to ensure communications are maintained, and equipment is functional.At the Electronic Technician level, the position maintains traffic signals and repairs, troubleshoots, and modifies traffic signal cabinets and equipment. Additionally, the position performs fieldwork in an efficient and safe manner.Minimum QualificationsNOTE: To facilitate proper crediting, please ensure that your resume clearly describes your experience in the areas listed and indicates the beginning and ending month and year for each job held.Minimum Qualifications for the Electronic Technician Senior:Registered Unlicensed Power Limited Technician license or obtain license within the probationary period.Completion of a two-year vocational/technical program in Electronics Technology (e.g., associate in applied science degree or Electronic Technician diploma) or equivalent within the last ten years, OR equivalent experience as described in the bullets below:Experience applying standard practices and procedures used in the repair, installation, and maintenance of electronic equipment sufficient to ensure diagnosis, repair, and operational efficiency of such equipment. The employee will work in high-volume traffic zones and walk on even and uneven and sloping ground in day and nighttime conditions. The employee will operate motor vehicles on and off the roadway. The employee will continually rotate through various body positions (standing, twisting, bending, sitting, kneeling, and squatting) while operating equipment and performing various other tasks frequently and daily. The employee will operate testing equipment (using vision and hearing) under varying temperatures. The employee must be able to move up to 50 pounds by pushing, pulling, lifting, and carrying. Periodically, the employee will push and/or pull carts, dollies, and cabinets. The employee must be able to visually distinguish colors. The employee must be able to wear and use personal protective equipment to protect the head, eyes, hearing, respiration, and feet from injury.
