Responsibilities:

• Facility and Equipment Repairs: Fix electrical, plumbing, HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning), heating plants, boilers, and structural issues.
• Security and Locksmith Systems: Maintain and repair specialized correctional security equipment, including electronic or pneumatic cell-door actuators, sally-port interlocks, surveillance power feeds, and high-security locks/keys.
• Life Safety and Compliance: Inspect and test fire alarms, smoke detectors, sprinkler valves, emergency lighting, and environmental/state fire safety systems.
• Supervising Inmate Work Crews: Oversee, train, and manage incarcerated workers assigned to maintenance, painting, carpentry, or groundskeeping tasks, while enforcing strict tool control and security rules.
• Tool and Inventory Control: Track every tool, part, and piece of equipment daily to ensure sharp tools or heavy equipment do not become contraband or weapons.
• Groundskeeping and Fleet Care: Handle snow removal, lawn mowing, road repairs, and maintenance on institutional or farm vehicles.
• Vendor and Contract Oversight: Escort and monitor outside contractors performing specialized construction or major capital improvements.

Requirements:

• High School Education: Equivalent to the completion of four years of high school or a GED
• Pass a background check
• Journeyman-Level Experience: Demonstrated work experience qualifying you as a journeyman in a maintenance, mechanical, or automotive repair trade (such as electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, or welding)
• Tool & Trade Knowledge: Extensive knowledge of the materials, methods, and standard practices of your specific trade, plus the ability to plan and lay out repair work
