Job Overview We’re hiring a Property Actuary to build the pricing models behind our property insurance work. You will build, validate, and maintain actuarial and CAT models that determine property insurance pricing for our clients, turning output into recommendations our brokers can use with risk managers and CFOs. This is a hands‑on modeling job; most of your week will be spent in the data (policy information, exposures, loss runs), building and refining models that help brokers benchmark risk, sanity‑check pricing, and advise clients heading into renewal. ACAS is preferred but not required. If you are a non‑credentialed actuary with real property modeling chops, we want to talk to you. Location In‑office requirement – 5 days a week in our EPIC office in New York, NY. What You’ll Do Build, validate, and maintain actuarial and statistical models used to price property risk, both CAT and non‑CAT. Work with a collaborative group of 10+ actuaries, geographically dispersed, with a core group located in NYC. Use those models to produce indicated rates, layer pricing, limit adequacy reads, retention analysis, and TCOR views that feed real placement decisions. Get hands‑on with the data: clean up SOVs, loss runs, and policy schedules, and set up workflows to accelerate future analysis. Turn model output into client‑readable formats (slides, benchmarks, short written narratives) that brokers can use in front of CFOs. Collaborate with producers, property practice leaders, and clients to walk through numbers, answer hard questions, and shape program structure. Contribute to new business: RFPs, prospect meetings, and deliverables where the actuarial story matters. Utilize AI to move faster, stress‑test models, and refine assumptions, running sanity checks before models are released. Keep models documented and auditable so anyone on the team can pick them up. Tools You’ll Use Modeling & Simulation: @RISK, ModelRisk CAT Platforms: Moody’s RMS, Verisk AIR, Archipelago Data & Programming: Excel, VBA, Python, R Visualization & Mapping: Power BI, Tableau, ArcGIS Market Intelligence: S&P Capital IQ Presentations: PowerPoint AI: Copilot, Claude What You’ll Bring Credentials & Technical Skills ACAS is preferred. If not credentialed, we’ll consider candidates with at least 2 years of dedicated property pricing or modeling work. Real property modeling experience – loss development, trend, frequency/severity, CAT load integration, and layer pricing. Comfort with large, messy datasets and strong Excel skills. Working knowledge of Python, R, or SQL is required. Regular use of AI tools (Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude, etc.) and knowledge of when to rely on them. Ability to explain work without jargon and communicate clearly to brokers and clients. Experience & Education 2+ years of actuarial work with meaningful time spent on property pricing or modeling. Bachelor’s in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, or another quantitative field. Brokerage, reinsurance, or carrier‑side property pricing experience is a plus. Self‑starter mindset; ready to build a growing property analytics practice. Domain Knowledge Understanding of commercial property program structures, TIV values, and underlying actuarial logic. Familiarity with major CAT models (AIR, RMS) and how vendor output integrates into pricing. Experience with benchmarking, limit adequacy, and TCOR modeling in renewal conversations. Comfort with complex program structures: layered placements, quota shares, deductibles, self‑insured retentions, captives. Ability to work across multiple stakeholders (brokers, practice leaders, clients, technical team). Compensation The national average salary for this role is $150,000.00 - $200,000.00 in base pay, exclusive of bonuses or benefits. Base pay will be determined based on experience, skills, certifications, and education, while also considering internal equity and market data.
