FACILITIES COORDINATORThe Office for the Vice President for Instruction (OVPI) seeks a detail-oriented, collaborative assistant building manager for the Science Learning Center at the University of Georgia. The Science Learning Center is a unique space that houses instructional laboratories for introductory STEM students along with scale-up classrooms and two large auditoria. This position reports to the Building Manager and has responsibility for working closely with the Building Manager in planning, coordinating and supervising the facilities management program for the Science Learning Center. The individual in this position will also be asked to with facilities related issues at two other Office of Instruction buildings on south campus, Cedar Street Building A which houses 19 classrooms and Building #1050. This includes providing safety of building personnel and patrons, coordination with Facilities Management concerning facilities operations and maintenance issues, environmental/safety regulation compliance including organization of emergency plans and operations, and management of special projects as they arise. Work involves assisting in developing appropriate policies and programs, monitoring the building and grounds, responding to emergency situations, managing the procurement and inventory of supplies and equipment, and scheduling and monitoring a sophisticated intrusion and fire alarm system. Assignments are carried out under established policies and procedures, and the employee must exercise quick, independent, and sound judgment and display initiative in applying resolution to emergency situations that arise. The Assistant Building Manager is expected to work at hours as needed and to be recallable for duty in 30 minutes to respond to after-hour emergencies or security issues.Knowledge of building operations, maintenance and security procedures; Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, patrons, staff; Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills. Intermediate knowledge of desktop and laptop computing is preferred. Working knowledge using software packages for office use, preferably Word and Excel for Windows; Experience using software and maintaining hardware for building access control and management.Sitting for long periods of time at a computer terminal is required. Position also entails lifting boxes weighing approximately 40 pounds each.
