Duties The Housekeeping Aid‑EVS Technician executes a full range of housekeeping activities in patient and non‑patient care areas. The position may be assigned to any tour and may require work in various designated areas during any tour of duty. The role generally involves working independently with general supervision or as part of a team, responsible for all cleaning duties in an assigned area throughout the medical facility. Typical duties include floor maintenance, wall washing, door and baseboard cleaning, sweeping, dust mopping, damp and wet mopping, scrubbing, stripping, refinishing, buffing, vacuuming, and spot cleaning. Use of pressure washers and heavy industrial powered or battery‑operated equipment, with maintenance and attachment changes, as needed. Empty trash and wastebaskets, replace liners, and transport general refuse, regulated medical waste, and recycling to central collection areas. Clean rest rooms, bathrooms, and shower rooms, ensuring they meet acceptable standards; disinfect and deodorize lavatories, showers, bathtubs, urinals, and toilet bowls. Clean mirrors, sinks, and water fountains; wash and polish light fixtures and toilet fixtures. Replenish paper towels, toilet paper, hand sanitizers, and soap in all dispensing areas. Move and arrange furniture, patient wardrobes, beds, and other items as necessary. Provide bed‑making services in patient care areas and observation rooms, including cleaning mattresses, springs, bed frames, bedside stands, over‑bed lights, blood pressure cuffs, and bed tables. Remove bags of soiled textiles from patient rooms and transport to the designated soiled room; load and unload clean textiles from bulk carts. Restock clean textile closets, cabinets, shelves, and carts; participate in inventory management activities. Defrost and clean patient care refrigerators and ice machines in nourishment kitchen areas; clean stainless steel on storage instrument cabinets, counters, elevators, lobbies, wards, diet‑kitchens, and nurse utility rooms. Clean ashtrays, smoke stands, sand urns, and water fountains in designated smoke areas. Perform interim cleaning of windows, window ledges from the inside, glass doors, and other glass surfaces; replace curtains and clean blinds. Clean and/or replace needle boxes. Periodically clean specific non‑critical reusable medical equipment in inpatient and clinical areas. Work schedule: Permanent, full‑time positions that may include weekdays, weekends, and holidays; schedule will be discussed during interviews. Physical requirements include continuous walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, pulling, and pushing. Occasional use of heavy powered cleaning equipment weighing over 50 pounds may be required. Pay: Competitive salary with regular increases; a higher step rate may be awarded for higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA. Paid time off: 37–50 days per year, broken into annual leave, sick leave, and federal holidays.
