Supervisory Public Affairs Specialist

As a SUPERVISORY PUBLIC AFFAIRS SPECIALIST some of your typical work assignments include:

Providing advice and assistance to the Director of External Affairs, the Chairman, Commissioners, and other key officials of the Commission. Maintaining daily liaison with the news media. Developing and coordinating news releases, fact sheets, and overseeing creation and publication of other storytelling deliverables, supervising media coverage and special appearances by the Chairman and other Commission officials, and arranging for news conferences, interviews, and radio and television appearances.

Serving as an expert resource and technical authority on public affairs and public information for OEA and Commission personnel. Proactively planning ways to communicate Commission priorities and indicatives. Responding to information requests from, and maintaining effective working relationship with, the news media as well as the general public. These responses often require detailed explanations which may be adversely received by particular groups.

Developing and implementing policy, procedures, and programs to meet the Commission's responsibilities to disseminate information to the press. Directing the preparation and distribution of news releases, fact sheets, announcements, and other printed, filmed and recorded materials to the media. Providing professional editorial assistance to the staff on internal reports and on those prepared for Congress and other Government agencies, as well as special presentations of a miscellaneous nature.

Exercising full supervisory, administrative and management responsibilities for the Division, including preparation of budget estimates; planning work to be accomplished by subordinates, setting and adjusting short-term priorities and preparing schedules for completion of work; assigning work to subordinates; evaluate work performance of subordinates.
