Tool Room Attendant

The Tool Room Attendant ensures the availability, functionality, and proper control of all production tools and consumables to support ongoing operations. This role involves issuing and receiving tools, maintaining accurate tool and inventory records, performing basic inspection and maintenance, and keeping the tool room clean, organized, and compliant with safety procedures. The position requires working independently, exercising sound judgment, and supporting production needs in a fast-paced shop environment.

Responsibilities

• Issue production tools, equipment, and consumables to employees and accurately record all transactions.
• Receive tools and equipment returned by employees and verify condition, completeness, and proper documentation.
• Guarantee the functionality and readiness of production tools in accordance with production needs and schedules.
• Operate the tool crib in alignment with the production schedule to ensure tools are available when needed.
• Perform preventive maintenance by tracking due dates, conducting periodic inspections, and arranging required maintenance for production tools.
• Create new Tool Control Cards for newly acquired tools and ensure they contain complete and accurate information.
• Update Tool Control Cards with tool history, calibration data, and maintenance records.
• Write, track, and file Lost Tool Notices and ensure appropriate follow-up and documentation.
• File Tool Control Cards and related documentation in an organized and easily retrievable manner.
• Update and maintain data files related to tool inventory, calibration, and maintenance activities.
• Repair tools when possible or coordinate sending broken tools out for repair, and track their status.
• Assist engineering and other departments with continuous improvement projects related to tools and tooling processes.
• Conduct regular inventory counts of production tools and reconcile physical counts with system records.
• Receive new tools into inventory and verify that deliveries match purchase orders and specifications.
• Perform incoming inspection on new tools to ensure they meet quality and functional requirements.
• Send out and track hydraulic samples as required, ensuring proper documentation and chain of custody.
• Receive and file hydraulic sample results and maintain organized records for future reference.
• Track calibration and periodic inspection due dates for all calibrated tools and equipment.
• Send out tools for calibration, receive them back, and verify calibration documentation.
• File calibration certifications and maintain an up-to-date calibration record system.
• Maintain the tool room in a clean, orderly, and safe condition, ensuring tools are stored in their proper locations.
• Learn and apply appropriate safety precautions and procedures in all tool room and shop activities.
• Perform related duties as assigned to support production and maintenance operations.

Essential Skills

• Demonstrated knowledge of tools, tool control, and consumables in a production or shop environment.
• Ability to issue and receive tools accurately while maintaining detailed records.
• Experience with inventory control, inventory management, and tool crib operations.
• Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints at a basic level as related to tools and equipment.
• Familiarity with calibration processes and tracking calibration and inspection due dates.
• Ability to perform basic inspection, repair, and routine maintenance on tools and equipment.
• Competence in using computer-based systems for data entry and recordkeeping (such as SAP or similar software).
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in documentation and inventory tracking.
• Effective communication skills to interact clearly with production, engineering, and other team members.
• Interpersonal skills that demonstrate good judgment, patience, and courtesy.
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions.
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
• Capability to work independently without direct supervision and manage time effectively.
• Physical ability to lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds and perform tasks involving lifting, carrying, pushing, climbing, and standing.
• Ability and willingness to learn and apply appropriate safety precautions and procedures.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).
• Experience or sufficient training that demonstrates the ability to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of a tool room or tool control role.
• Familiarity with SAP or similar enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems for inventory and tool management.
• Experience working with hydraulic tools or components and handling hydraulic samples.
• Experience in a manufacturing, production, or shop environment with exposure to tool crib operations.
• Ability to support continuous improvement initiatives in collaboration with engineering and other departments.

Work Environment

This is a full-time position based in a tool room and shop environment. Typical shift options include 4:30 PM to 1:30 AM or 1:30 PM to 10:00 PM, with days and hours subject to change based on production needs. The work setting involves regular exposure to equipment noise, fumes, and typical shop conditions. Duties require lifting, carrying, pushing, climbing, and handling tools and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. The role uses computer systems, including Microsoft Office and inventory or ERP software such as SAP, along with various production tools, hydraulic equipment, and calibrated instruments. Safety procedures and precautions are an integral part of daily activities, and you are expected to follow all established safety guidelines while maintaining a clean, organized, and efficient tool room.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $19.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
