Job Summary:
The Departments of Neurology and Neurological Surgery at the University of Wisconsin, School of Medicine and Public Health are seeking an Academic Program Specialist to join our team of education administrative professionals. We invite qualified candidates to apply, we offer a fun, dynamic, and collaborative environment with opportunities for partial remote work. The candidate will work closely with curriculum leaders, and clinical and basic science faculty, on various educational and training activities for Phase 2 and Phase 3 ForWard curriculum. The candidate will coordinate inpatient and outpatient clinical experiences, as well as related learning opportunities. The candidate will work closely with medical students, and medical school faculty and staff, regarding assessments, assignments, program requirements and other administrative and educational tasks.

Candidates who demonstrate the following knowledge, skills, and abilities will be given first consideration:

• Excellent interpersonal and verbal skills for interacting and building rapport with students, teaching physicians, staff and other personnel
  
• Excellent time management, strong organizational abilities, meticulous attention to detail, effective multi-tasking, solid project management skills and managing complex schedules

Additional Information:

• This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.
  
• This position has been identified as a position of trust with access to vulnerable populations. The selected candidate will be required to pass an initial caregiver check to be eligible for employment under the Wisconsin Caregiver Law and every four years.
  

Key Job Responsibilities:

• Identifies program, needs, contributes to the development of unit workflows, schedules logistics and secures resources for meetings, events, and interviews

• Utilizes independent judgement regarding development, implementation, promotion, and evaluation for one or more academic programs, initiatives, or events

• May supervise the day to day activities of one or more academic programs and resolves issues exercising discretion to meet unit goals.

• Assist with enrollment and coordination of undergrad students in Independent Study or other research courses for credit

• Coordinates program components and evaluates program effectiveness and provides recommendations for improvement

Department:
School of Medicine and Public Health, Department of Neurology

The Department of Neurology at the University of Wisconsin provides state-of-the-art care for people afflicted with diseases of the nervous system, conducts research in basic and clinical neuroscience, and offers medical students, residents and fellows intensive training in the diagnosis and treatment of neurological disorders. The Department's mission of clinical service, research and teaching is pursued at the University Hospital, the Middleton Veteran's Administration Medical Center, the School of Medicine and Public Health, and in a diverse set of clinical outreach sites within the state of Wisconsin. The faculty and academic staff of the department currently consists of over 200 individuals engaged in a broad range of clinical and academic activities. Neurology faculty and academic staff include neurologists, neuropsychologists and scientists who are engaged in basic and clinical research, and also contribute to educational programs of the Department. There are more than 40 trainees in a variety of residency, fellowship, and postdoctoral programs.

Compensation:
The starting salary for the position is $51,000, but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications.

Required Qualifications:

• Strong technical proficiency in Microsoft Office, educational administrative platforms and learning management systems - Oasis, MedHub, Acuity
  
• Previous roles in academic medicine, education, healthcare or related fields
  
• Basic understanding of medical education or clinic systems, ability to interpret medical education policies and procedures
  
• At least one year of experience coordinating and managing complex schedules or events
  

Preferred Qualifications:

• 1-year prior experience in an academic medical setting, prior experience in higher education or equivalent
  
• Prior experience at School of Medicine and Public Health or UW Madison
  

Education:
Bachelor's Degree preferred
