Laboratory Manager

Role Overview Role Overview: The Laboratory Services Manager at Blood Bank of Alaska is responsible for overseeing daily laboratory operations, ensuring that all laboratory product quality control (QC) and donor test results comply with CLIA, AABB, and FDA standards for blood product manufacturing. The manager reports to the Director of Laboratory Services and directly supervises QC Laboratory Technicians. Key Responsibilities Manage daily laboratory workflow and staff scheduling, including on-call and stem cell lab coverage. Maintain competency in laboratory procedures and provide coverage as needed. Oversee performance evaluations, disciplinary reviews, and competency assessments for laboratory staff. Review and resolve timesheet discrepancies for staff. Prioritize employee safety and well-being. Investigate laboratory-related occurrences and product deviations. Develop, revise, and validate laboratory Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and processes, serving as the assigned owner/author in Q-Pulse. Oversee equipment QC and maintenance schedules, ensuring timely completion and review of records. Ensure proficiency testing is ordered, assigned, performed, and reviewed on schedule. Coordinate with other departments and management teams as needed. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Must meet qualifications of Medical Technologist (MT) or Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS). Implied Requirements Ability to oversee and manage daily laboratory workflow. Competency in performing laboratory processes and procedures to provide coverage as needed. Experience in scheduling laboratory staff, including on-call and specialized coverage (e.g., stem cell laboratory). Skills in conducting performance evaluations, disciplinary reviews, and competency assessments for laboratory staff. Ability to review and resolve timesheet discrepancies. Commitment to prioritizing employee safety and well-being. Experience in investigating laboratory-related occurrences and biological product deviations. Ability to develop, revise, and validate laboratory Standard Operating Policies and Procedures (SOPs), and serve as owner/author in Q-Pulse. Oversight of receipt and notification processes for TAD, TRALI, and BD reports, as well as product recalls/quarantines/discards. Skills in planning, writing, and validating new or revised QC/equipment/maintenance procedures and processes. Ability to assign and oversee validation tasks for laboratory technicians. Oversight of laboratory equipment QC and maintenance schedules, ensuring timely completion and review of records.
