Graduate Research Associate, Clinical Outcomes
$50 per hourHearst Health
Job Description Overview (Why This Role?) Hearst Health is seeking a part-time Graduate Research Associate, Clinical Outcomes to help quantify and communicate the clinical impact of our software, data, and decision-support solutions. This role is designed for a student pursuing an advanced degree in public health, health services research, epidemiology, biostatistics, health informatics, or a related field who wants to apply rigorous research methods to real-world healthcare questions. The core question behind the role is straightforward but important: Do patients and healthcare organizations achieve better clinical outcomes when they use Hearst Health solutions? Working with Hearst Health leadership and the Chief Medical Officers and clinical leaders across our businesses, the Graduate Research Associate will help turn that question into testable hypotheses, design appropriate analyses, evaluate real-world data, and develop credible evidence about the relationship between use of our solutions and clinical outcomes. This is not primarily an academic research role. The objective is to produce rigorous, defensible evidence that can inform product strategy and, where supported by the findings, strengthen how Hearst Health communicates the value of its solutions to customers and the market. The position is expected to require approximately 10–20 hours per week , with flexibility to accommodate an academic schedule. Compensation: $50 an hour This position is eligible for Remote Work. About Hearst Health The mission of Hearst Health is to guide healthcare organizations by delivering essential intelligence and software that improve the quality, safety and efficiency of care. Hearst Health has been innovating with care for more than 40 years, with a commitment to making a lasting positive impact on health. The Hearst Health companies — FDB, Homecare Homebase, MCG, MHK, QGenda and Zynx Health — elevate care by informing and empowering participants across the health journey. Responsibilities Key Responsibilities Clinical Outcomes Research & Study Design Partner with Chief Medical Officers, clinical leaders, product teams, and other stakeholders across Hearst Health businesses to identify high-value questions about the clinical impact of our solutions. Translate business and clinical questions into testable hypotheses, measurable outcomes, and well-defined research designs. Develop appropriate observational, quasi-experimental, or other analytical approaches to assess whether and how clinical outcomes change following adoption or use of Hearst Health solutions. Identify relevant endpoints, comparison populations, time periods, covariates, and potential confounding factors. Assess the strengths and limitations of available data and recommend pragmatic study designs that balance methodological rigor with real-world constraints. Data Analysis & Evidence Development Analyze clinical, operational, utilization, or other relevant healthcare data to evaluate outcomes associated with Hearst Health solutions. Apply appropriate statistical and epidemiological methods to distinguish meaningful effects from correlation, selection effects, and other sources of bias. Conduct sensitivity analyses and other validation work to assess the robustness of findings. Document methodology, assumptions, limitations, and results so analyses can withstand scrutiny from clinical, analytical, and customer audiences. Where an analysis does not demonstrate a meaningful clinical benefit, clearly characterize the result and help identify what should be tested or investigated next. Insight Translation & Communication Translate complex analytical findings into clear conclusions for clinical and business audiences. Develop charts, exhibits, research summaries, and other materials that explain study methodology and findings accurately and accessibly. Partner with marketing, sales, product, and clinical teams to determine how validated findings can appropriately support customer conversations, case studies, thought leadership, and other external communications. Help ensure that claims about clinical impact remain consistent with the underlying evidence and appropriately reflect study limitations. Research Portfolio Development Help establish a repeatable framework for measuring clinical impact across Hearst Health businesses and products. Identify opportunities to extend initial analyses into deeper research, customer-specific studies, conference submissions, white papers, or peer-reviewed research where appropriate. Monitor relevant academic literature and emerging methodologies for evaluating digital health, clinical decision support, healthcare software, and data products. What Success Looks Like Rigorous evidence: Research questions are translated into credible study designs and analyses that can withstand clinical and methodological scrutiny. Decision-useful findings: Analyses produce clear answers—including negative or inconclusive results—that help Hearst Health understand where its solutions have measurable impact. Clinical credibility: Chief Medical Officers and other clinical leaders view the Associate as a capable research partner who understands both methodological rigor and real-world healthcare. Commercial relevance: Validated findings can be translated into clear, evidence-based insights that strengthen customer and market conversations without overstating what the research demonstrates. Repeatability: The work contributes to a scalable approach for measuring clinical impact across multiple Hearst Health businesses and solutions. Qualifications Qualifications (What We're Looking For) Must-Have Qualifications Currently pursuing an advanced degree—such as an MPH, MS, DrPH, PhD, or comparable graduate degree—in public health, epidemiology, biostatistics, health services research, health informatics, outcomes research, or a related quantitative field. Strong grounding in research methodology, epidemiology, biostatistics, or causal inference. Experience designing and conducting quantitative analyses using healthcare, clinical, claims, EHR, or other complex real-world datasets. Proficiency with at least one statistical or analytical programming environment. Ability to move from an open-ended clinical question to a structured research plan and analytical approach. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical findings to non-technical audiences. Intellectual curiosity and comfort working across clinical, analytical, product, and commercial perspectives. Preferred Qualifications Experience with observational or quasi-experimental methods used in real-world evidence generation, such as propensity score methods, matched cohort designs, difference-in-differences, interrupted time series, or related approaches. Familiarity with healthcare quality measures, clinical outcomes, utilization measures, or healthcare economics. Experience working with claims, EHR, clinical workflow, or other healthcare datasets. Prior research experience resulting in a publication, poster, conference presentation, thesis, or similar research output. Interest in healthcare technology and in understanding how software, information, and clinical decision-support tools affect care delivery and patient outcomes. #J-18808-Ljbffr Hearst Health
