This position will report directly to the Provost and VicePresident for Academic Affairs. The finalist candidate for theposition of Associate Provost for Academic Affairs is expected tobe a dynamic, experienced, forward-thinking academic leader, whopossesses strong personal and professional integrity to qualifyhim/her to join the energetic team in the Division of AcademicAffairs to help us advance the institutional mission and strategicplan of Bowie State University. The incumbent will providecomprehensive and confidential advice and assistance to the Provoston a broad range of academic and administrative issues, bothinternal and external, to the campus. The Associate Provost for Academic Affairs has oversight foracademic planning and initiatives and experiential learning,including new degree and certificate programs; academic policiesand procedures; curricular reviews, approvals of new programs andmodifications to existing programs; submissions of new and revisedprograms to the University System of Maryland ( USM ) and theMaryland Higher Education Commission ( MHEC );college catalogs andcalendars; and memoranda of understanding (MOUs), articulations,and other academic agreements. The incumbent will play a criticalrole in both the development and execution of strategic initiativeswithin the division of Academic Affairs and across the university.The ideal candidate shall be competent to help the Office of theProvost facilitate and support existing and emergingcross-divisional partnerships. Under the direction of the Provost and Vice President for AcademicAffairs, the Associate Provost for Academic Affairs will: Collaborate with faculty, staff, and administrators from acrossthe institution to fulfill the institutional mission and strategicplan. Supports planning and project management in the Division ofAcademic Affairs. Work with Academic areas as assigned to develop strategicplans, create policies, and collaborates with other divisions toanalyze and develop recommendations in response to evolvingissues. Assist the Provost in planning, directing, evaluating, anddeveloping academic programs, certificates, stable credentials, andbadges. Oversee the development and implementation of any academic MOUsand ensures collaboration with the Assistant Vice President ofEnrollment Management and the Dean of Students in the Division ofStudent Affairs. Oversee articulation agreements with community colleges andassist in the development of 2+2 program pathways. Provide oversight for the scheduling of academic courses. Facilitate resolution on issues related to student academicperformance and grievances, ensures compliance with established BSUand USM policy, and provides ongoing review and revision. Facilitate academic reviews and annual reports. Co-organize and leads the development of new hireorientation/onboarding exercises (e.g. Deans, AVPs, andDirectors). Oversee annual updates to Academic Catalogs and AcademicCalendars in consultation with the University’s Registrar, alongwith working collaboratively with the Associate Provost for Facultyon Academic Affairs Operations, University planned Convocations,Honors and Awards Day, and Commencement. Assist in the development of funding strategies for academicprograms. Facilitate academic policy development and implementation. Serve on University-wide Committees or represents the Provostas assigned. Assume supervision of select non-academic administrative units(ex. Experiential Learning, Career Services, and ContinuingEducation). Collaborate with the Office of Planning, Analysis andAccountability ( OPAA ) and the Center for Academic ProgramAssessment ( CAPA ), and works closely with the Assistant VicePresident ( AVP ) for Online Learning and Regional Centers. Minimum Qualifications Education Earned doctorate degree with academic credentials consistent withappointment as a tenured faculty as demonstrated by a distinguishedrecord of teaching, scholarly publications, and/or creativeaccomplishments that exhibit commitment to academicexcellence. Experience Seven (7) years of progressively responsible administrativeexperience working in academic leadership at an institution ofhigher education, including a minimum of three (3) years ofadministrative leadership in academic affairs. Experience with higher education regional accreditationorganizations, standards and articulation processes and programreviews. Knowledge Skills and Abilities The ideal candidate will possess a commitment to the missionand core values of Bowie State University; a record ofprogressively advanced administrative experience in highereducation; demonstrated responsibility for a broad range oforganizational areas; experience developing, implementing, andoverseeing academic curricula, programs, and policies; experiencewith assessment of learning outcomes, online learning, generaleducation, program review and accreditation; understanding ofMSCHE, USM, and MHEC guidelines, processes, and requirements.
