Electrical Specialist

As an Electrical Specialist, you will be responsible for inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing, installing, and maintaining various electrical systems, including motors, generators, transformers, switches, control equipment, wiring, and communication systems. Your role will involve performing electrician work at the journey level, maintaining plant DC emergency battery backup systems, and ensuring the safety and functionality of high voltage switchyard systems. You will be expected to conduct preventive maintenance, communicate effectively with team members, and contribute to plant improvements.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, troubleshoot, repair, install, and maintain motors, generators, transformers, switches, control equipment, wiring, and communication systems.
• Perform electrician work at the journey level, including the installation of electrical wiring, equipment, and controls.
• Maintain plant DC emergency battery backup systems and perform high voltage switchyard basic electrical systems maintenance.
• Inspect, test, and maintain electrical systems, including high voltage systems, adhering to electrical safety practices.
• Conduct basic inspections and preventive maintenance of tools and equipment.
• Perform electrical system isolations following industry standards and train others in Electrical Safety programs.
• Fill out job or shift report forms as assigned.
• Respond to emergencies at any time of day or night, as directed.
• Perform work safely, adhering to safety procedures and environmental permits.
• Communicate effectively with supervision and plant personnel regarding equipment condition and performance.
• Proactively address potential issues to prevent unplanned downtime.
• Collaborate with technicians, operators, and maintenance personnel for seamless plant operations.
• Document maintenance activities, repairs, and equipment performance for future reference.
• Participate in planned outages by providing technical support for maintenance activities.
• Follow all safety rules and procedures and adhere to safety warnings and posted safety signs.

Essential Skills

• Electrical troubleshooting
• Medium voltage and switchgear experience
• Experience with industrial electrical equipment
• 5-10 years of related experience
• Technical degree from an accredited institution

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Previous experience as a Journeyman Electrician or relevant military background
• Proficiency with voltages ranging from 480V to 13.8KV
• Familiarity with high voltage switchyard systems maintenance
• Ability to execute electrical system isolations and train on Electrical Safety programs
• Strong organizational skills and ability to understand area-specific procedures
• Excellent personal computer skills for documentation and data analysis
• High School diploma or better

The work environment is within a power plant or heavy industrial setting, requiring adherence to strict safety rules and procedures. Employees must remain mentally alert and work safely, following all safety warnings and signs. The job involves dealing with high voltage systems and requires the use of personal protective equipment. The facility operates in a collaborative manner, with technicians, operators, and maintenance personnel working together to ensure the smooth operation of electrical systems. The position may require responding to emergencies at any time.

This is a Contract position based out of Ackerman, MS.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $32.00 - $40.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
