General Maintenance Mechanic

Building Multi-Craft Maintenance MechanicThe Building Multi-Craft Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and installation of building systems and equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient facility operations. This position requires a broad working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and building utility systems. The mechanic performs preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, and emergency repairs while maintaining compliance with all safety, environmental, and company requirements. Regular work hours are Monday - Friday, 9:30 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. with quarterly weekend coverage.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesPerform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on facility equipment and building systems.Troubleshoot and repair HVAC equipment, air handling units, pumps, motors, valves, cooling systems, and associated controls.Maintain and repair plumbing, steam, condensate, compressed air, chilled water, and heating systems.Troubleshoot electrical systems including lighting, receptacles, motors, motor controls, and low-voltage systems.Perform mechanical repairs on pumps, bearings, gearboxes, belts, couplings, and rotating equipment.Utilize work orders and CMMS systems to document maintenance activities and equipment history.Perform inspections and operational checks of facility systems and equipment.Support facility improvement projects, equipment installations, and shutdown activities.Respond to emergency maintenance calls and equipment failures.Perform basic carpentry, painting, ceiling repair, door hardware repair, and general building maintenance as needed.Maintain clean work areas, shops, and mechanical spaces.Communicate effectively with customers, contractors, and facility personnel.Adhere to all safety requirements including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), confined space, hot work, electrical safety, and PPE requirements.Required QualificationsHigh school diploma or GED.Minimum three (3) years of industrial or facilities maintenance experience.Experience working with mechanical, electrical, HVAC, and plumbing systems.Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals, drawings, schematics, and preventive maintenance procedures.Basic computer skills and experience using a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).Valid driver's license.Preferred QualificationsTechnical degree, apprenticeship, or vocational training in maintenance, HVAC, electrical, or mechanical trades.RCTC's Facility and Service Technology (FAST) program, or other relevant trade certifications.Experience maintaining critical utility support systems.Experience with building automation systems (BAS) and computerized control systems.Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.Working knowledge of: HVAC systems, electrical systems, plumbing systems, steam and condensate systems, chilled water systems, pneumatic and hydraulic systems, building automation controls, preventive maintenance practices.Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, diagnostic instruments, and testing equipment.Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.Strong customer service and communication skills.Ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.Job RequirementsMental Demands: Understand and carry out oral instructions; Read and carry out written instructions to perform work tasks; Work at varying heights; Recognize, avoid, and report safety hazards; Assemble and disassemble objects; Operate equipment and power toolsPhysical Demands: See hazards, safety warnings, and barriers; Bend knees for lifting and routine work tasks; Stoop for work positioning and lifting to perform work tasks; Lift maximum 50 lbs without assistance; Ability to comprehend, and respond to audible/visual instructions, alarms and warnings; Climb/balance on ladders, scaffolding, and structures for work tasks; Kneel for work positioning and work task performance; Reach above shoulders and away from body to perform work tasks; Demonstrate manual dexterity to perform work tasksWorking Conditions: Work in extreme heat or cold; Work where noise level is above 85 decibels; Work in wet/humid environment; Work in cramped quarters; Work in environment of fluctuating ventilation; Work inside and outsideWe are an equal opportunity employer.
