Title: Controls Engineer.
Location : Libertyville, IL.

Job Summary

• Provide technical leadership for controls, automation, and electrical systems supporting high-volume medical device manufacturing operations.
• Lead the specification, installation, commissioning, and optimization of automated assembly equipment, machine networks, and SCADA systems.
• Support production by troubleshooting and improving PLC-based controls, motion control systems, vision systems, and industrial automation equipment.
• Drive safety, quality, reliability, and productivity improvements through controls engineering and continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop control system specifications, user requirements, and automation standards for manufacturing and material handling equipment.
• Support equipment installation, FAT/SAT activities, validation, commissioning, and production startup.
• Troubleshoot controls-related downtime issues and implement corrective actions to improve equipment performance and reliability.
• Manage software, firmware, security access, change controls, and system upgrades for manufacturing equipment.

Technical Responsibilities

• Program, troubleshoot, and optimize Allen-Bradley ControlLogix PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems, VFDs, servo drives, and motion control systems.
• Configure and maintain industrial communication networks including Ethernet/IP, DeviceNet, ProfiNet, Modbus, Profibus, and serial communication protocols.
• Support and optimize vision inspection systems, MES interfaces, RFID systems, and data collection platforms.
• Develop preventive maintenance strategies, root cause investigations, and technical training programs for maintenance and production teams.

Required Skills

• Strong experience with Allen-Bradley ControlLogix PLCs, Studio 5000, RSLogix 5000, FactoryTalk SE, Ignition, and industrial automation systems.
• Hands-on expertise with HMI development, SCADA systems, PowerFlex VFDs, Kinetix servo drives, and motion control applications.
• Solid understanding of industrial networking, fieldbus communication protocols, PID control loops, and control system architecture.
• Proven troubleshooting, analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills in a manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
• 7+ years of experience in controls engineering, automation, or manufacturing systems within a high-volume production environment.
• Experience designing, commissioning, and supporting automated manufacturing equipment and industrial control systems.
• Ability to lead technical projects, manage change controls, and support cross-functional engineering teams.
