Welding Engineer

Our client a T ier 1 Automotive S upplier , is seeking a Weld Engineer to support resistance welding, spot welding schedule development, and Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW/MIG) operaions within a manufacturing environment in Spartanburg, SC .
This position will be responsible for developing and maintaining welding procedures, supporting welder and equipment qualifications, troubleshooting weld-related production issues, and ensuring welding processes meet applicable codes, standards, and internal requirements.
- Develop, review, maintain, and optimize resistance and spot welding schedules, including weld current, weld time, electrode force, squeeze time, hold time, and electrode/tip maintenance requirements.
- Support GMAW/MIG welding processes, including shielding gas, wire feed speed, voltage, amperage, filler metal selection, and joint preparation.
- Develop and maintain Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and Procedure Qualification Records (PQR).
- Support welder and welding equipment qualifications.
- Troubleshoot and resolve welding-related production and quality issues.
- Review engineering drawings, weld symbols/callouts, specifications, and inspection requirements.
- Support weld inspection, destructive and nondestructive testing, defect analysis, and corrective actions.
- Ensure welding processes comply with applicable welding codes, industry standards, and internal manufacturing requirements.
- Partner with Engineering, Quality, Operations, Maintenance, and Production teams to improve welding processes and resolve issues.
- Maintain accurate technical documentation and welding records.
- Experience with resistance welding, spot welding, and GMAW/MIG welding processes.
- Hands-on experience developing or optimizing spot welding schedules.
- Experience with GMAW/MIG process parameters and applications.
- Experience developing or maintaining WPS and PQR documentation.
- Knowledge of applicable welding codes, industry standards, and manufacturing requirements.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, weld symbols, specifications, and inspection requirements.
- Understanding of weld inspection methods, quality requirements, destructive testing, nondestructive testing, and weld defect resolution.
- Experience working in a manufacturing, fabrication, or production environment
- Strong problem-solving, communication, documentation, and analytical skills.
- Ability to work effectively across engineering, quality, operations, maintenance, and production teams.
