Vice President of Clinical

Cedarhurst

Job Description

Job Description

Description:

Company Overview:

Cedarhurst Senior Living is an experienced operator of independent living, assisted living and memory care communities across the Midwest, Mid-South, and Southeast. Cedarhurst Senior Living is part of the Dover Companies, a vertically integrated healthcare organization established in 2007 to develop, construct, acquire, own, and operate high-quality senior living communities. In addition to Cedarhurst Senior Living, the Dover Companies include Dover Development, Brahms Construction, Dover Capital, Dover Health, and Medicine Express.

Cedarhurst Senior Living and the Dover Companies are mission driven — everything we do is grounded in our higher purpose of caring for seniors. Our decision making is informed by our mission “to create communities where each person feels loved, valued, supported and able to live life to the fullest.” Each business unit and each team member have a unique ability and responsibility to impact the lives of seniors, and we take that responsibility very seriously. We also embody an entrepreneurial spirit that has fueled our growth and continues to drive us forward.

Position Summary:

The Vice President of Clinical, reporting to the President, will lead the evolution of clinical services across the company’s portfolio of senior living communities. This individual holds resident care as the standard against which every decision is measured. The Vice President of Clinical (VP) will view clinical care as both a core operating discipline and a promise to residents and their families; one that can be intentionally designed, differentiated, scaled, measured, continuously improved, and clearly communicated to residents, families, referral partners, and the marketplace. The VP will establish the vision for Cedarhurst's clinical platform and translate that vision into practical systems, programs, services, processes, training, standards, and tools that allow our teams to deliver excellent, compassionate care consistently across our communities. Working closely with Operations, Sales, Marketing, Finance, Human Resources, Technology, and other executive leaders, this individual will create a clinical experience that meaningfully improves residents' lives and earns families' trust, while strengthening Cedarhurst's operating performance, scalability, and competitive position.

Why Work for Cedarhurst:

  • At Cedarhurst, our core values guide how we work together and how we care for those we serve. We expect every team member to be passionate, trustworthy, empathetic, positive, respectful, and approachable. Being part of Cedarhurst means making a meaningful difference every day.
  • We believe our team is our greatest strength. That’s why we invest in comprehensive training, as well as opportunities for both personal and professional growth. We’re committed to promoting from within and supporting team members who want to build their careers with us.
  • Cedarhurst offers a competitive benefits package, including medical insurance, life insurance, long-term disability coverage, and a 401(k) plan with company match (after one year of service) for eligible employees.
  • Additional Benefits Include:
  • Work that makes a difference in the lives of our residents and community
  • An on-site gym with brand-new equipment
  • A personal trainer offering daily group classes, stretching sessions, and one-on-one training
  • Catered lunches twice a week, prepared by our on-site chef
  • Monthly team events and more

Essential Duties:

The following duties are normal for this position. This list is not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

Enterprise Clinical Leadership & Operations:

  • Establish and continuously improve Cedarhurst's clinical philosophy, standards, and protocols, translating them into scalable, repeatable enterprise processes for critical clinical activities, including assessments, care planning, change-of-condition management, medication management, incident review, transitions of care, documentation, and family communication that create consistency across communities while allowing appropriate flexibility for resident needs, markets, regulations, and operating environments.
  • Serve as the senior clinical voice of the organization and provide evidence-based guidance to executive and operational leadership.
  • Partner closely with Operations, regional leaders, Executive Directors, Directors of Nursing, and community teams to ensure clinical expectations are practical, measurable, and executable.
  • Clarify accountability between Clinical and Operations and address barriers related to staffing models, workflows, technology, training, communication, and execution.
  • Ensure significant clinical initiatives have clear ownership, workflows, training, tools, communication, performance measures, and follow-through before implementation.
  • Build effective feedback loops between community teams and corporate leadership so clinical programs and standards continue to improve based on field experience.
  • Directly oversee the corporate clinical team, providing development, performance feedback and monitoring progress. Collaborate closely with Cedarhurst Operations to provide support for the Regional Nursing Team.

Clinical Strategy & Product Development:

  • Own Cedarhurst’s enterprise clinical strategy and continually evaluate how clinical services can improve resident outcomes, resident experience, family confidence, operating performance, and competitive differentiation.
  • Evaluate emerging trends across healthcare, aging, wellness, technology, home health, chronic disease management, rehabilitation, behavioral health, pharmacy, and senior living to determine where Cedarhurst should lead, partner, adopt, test, or intentionally decline.
  • Partner with Sales and Marketing to translate clinical capabilities into compelling, accurate, consumer-friendly value propositions.

Clinical Process Improvement & Innovation:

  • Evaluate clinical processes and identify opportunities to simplify, automate, standardize, or redesign work while improving quality and reducing unnecessary administrative burden.
  • Create repeatable enterprise processes for critical clinical activities including assessments, care planning, change-of-condition management, medication management, incident review, transitions of care, documentation, resident monitoring, and family communication.
  • Partner with Technology, Legal and Operations to leverage data, automation, and technology to improve clinical decision-making and efficiency.
  • Apply continuous improvement methodologies to identify root causes and develop scalable solutions rather than relying on recurring interventions.

Quality, Outcomes & Risk Management:

  • Establish meaningful clinical KPIs, outcome measures, and executive-level reporting that provide visibility into performance, trends, risks, and opportunities.
  • Use data proactively to identify emerging clinical risks and partner with Operations to develop appropriate interventions and corrective actions.
  • Maintain enterprise oversight of regulatory compliance, clinical risk, resident safety, infection prevention, medication management, quality assurance, and other critical clinical disciplines.
  • Build systems that promote accountability, learning, and continuous improvement while ensuring Cedarhurst meets regulatory requirements and organizational standards for excellence.
  • Reviews all Statement of Deficiencies, Plans of Corrections, Fine Notifications, and “Record-Only incidents with appropriate legal and operation parties on response and action items.
  • Logs all management start and end dates in relation to incident tracking & applicable insurance coverage.

Clinical Talent & Capability:

  • Establish expectations and competencies for clinical leadership throughout the organization.
  • Partner with Operations, Human Resources, and Learning & Development to strengthen the capabilities of Directors of Nursing and other clinical leaders.
  • Identify leadership and capability gaps and develop education focused on clinical judgment, leadership, communication, operational understanding, and execution.
  • Develop succession plans, career pathways, and a stronger clinical leadership bench.
  • Foster a culture in which clinical leaders see themselves as leaders responsible for residents, people, operations, experience, and business performance, not only as clinicians.
  • Other duties as assigned

Working Conditions:
