Job Summary The Dean of Student Success plays a pivotal role in fostering the academic, social, and emotional development of students as they transition to U-High and navigate their high school journey. The role focuses on personalized support through progress monitoring, data collection and analysis, collaboration with the Learning and Counseling Team, and oversight of student transition and belonging initiatives (including Advisory and Summer Bridge), with emphasis on onboarding new-to-Lab students and 9th grade students. As a member of the high school administrative team (Principal, Assistant Principal, Dean of Students), the Dean of Student Success partners with key stakeholders to cultivate a holistic understanding of students’ educational experiences and ensure smooth transitions to high school while empowering students to thrive. Working with the High School Principal and Dean of Students, the Dean of Student Success uses multiple data points to monitor and assess academic progress, identify patterns, address challenges, and develop strategies to support student achievement. Responsibilities Collaborate with the Learning and Counseling team to monitor academic progress for individual students. Identify intervention strategies and coordinate support plans (Academic Support and Academic Intervention). Implement systems for tracking academic progress and school-wide trends to anticipate challenges and plan programming. Collaborate with the Dean of Students’ Office to analyze attendance patterns and their impact on academic performance to develop targeted supports. Coordinate with Middle School to develop transition plans for students needing academic and/or social-emotional intervention. Oversee the Summer Bridge program and support the faculty providing content for entering Grade 9 students. Assist with the integration of new-to-Lab students to U-High. Provide workshops at the Grade 9 retreat to facilitate the transition to high school for Grade 9 students. Co-facilitate the Grade 9 Seminar with the Dean of Students. Represent the high school administration on the high school admissions committee. Oversee the high school advisory program with training and resources for meaningful student engagement and mentorship. Serve as the primary contact for Academic Dishonesty and minor disciplinary infractions, in partnership with the Dean of Students. Collaborate with the Dean of Students and assembly planning committee to create programming aligned with Lab’s action theory focusing on academic, social, emotional, and identity development. Partner with Learning and Counseling Team and administrators to support students on Academic Support, Academic Intervention, and Medical Leaves; promote academic growth and social-emotional well-being. Coordinate with the Principal, Dean of Students and other administrators to provide programming for U-High parents/guardians. Support students, families, and faculty in student services related to extracurricular activities, communications, conferences, personnel matters, and policy implementation across divisions. Build relationships with students, families, faculty, and staff to foster a collaborative, inclusive culture and advance Lab’s mission. Performs other related work as needed. Education Minimum Qualifications – A college or university degree in a related field. Work Experience Minimum Qualifications – 7+ years of work experience in a related discipline. Certifications Preferred Qualifications Education (Preferred) Master’s degree in a related field. Experience School leadership experience, preferably at the high school level. Three or more years of experience in program development and leadership. Strong academic background and experience in adolescent development. Teaching experience. Preferred Competencies Counseling experience. Track record of collaboration, facilitation, team-building, and results. Excellent problem-solving and interpersonal skills. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Patience and listening skills. Analytical skills and ability to use data to assess results against student learning. Supervisory skills and knowledge of instructional methodologies. Ability to develop and assess curricula, lesson plans, and assessment tools. Decision-making, attention to detail, organizational and computational skills. Creativity, flexibility, interpersonal skills, independence, teamwork, and ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines. Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations.
